Felt sorry for Bevan on Saturday. Not a word about him or the aircraft. The warbird and airshow display circuit needs more guys like him to be there when the older guys hang up their flight jackets for the last time. At least that was partially redeemed on Sunday

Also, was Colin Henderson's Messerschitt Bf108 there, and did it fly with the Buchon? No sign of it on any of the three days.

About 15 minutes ago I was walking home along Shakespeare Street, Leamington, and looked up to see Harvard NZ1098 cruising directly up the street, nice and low. Was such a lovely sound. I assume the Harvard is heading home from Wanaka?

Errol, Thanks for the vote of confidence. Getting into serious prep mode now. Just hope that I can live up to expectations. So sorry to see 57 on the grass Monday. Lots to do to get it back in the air again. So lucky that it did not happen during the show or practice days with far more (can I say it) unwanted media focus. Whole thing was handled well and no one hurt. Major regrets for me were stupidly rolling my ankle on Sunday night just before I was due for dinner with KTJ and not knowing Aeromedia was there on a last minute sortie to Wanaka.

Hi all, I'm after any photos or videos anyone might have of the RNZAF A109 display? Any help or a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. As has been said, its a bit of a challenge to get good shots of this type of low-viz colour scheme when you are shooting directly into the sun. Anyway:

Those images are extremely washed-out colour-wise, but that graphically illustrates the extremes you have to go to when you attempt to take good photographs of the A109 helicopters in their very dark low-viz scheme with a severely backlit background. I haven't managed to trawl through my memory cards and find the photos of the A109 I took, but I have no doubt whatsoever that my images will likewise be very washed-out colour-wise.
Omaka and Hood aerodromes are definitely much better locations to take photographs of dark aircraft because the sun is behind you.

Yes indeed, good clear images Peter and yep, very washed out, but the same with most of the military displays; the Texan IIs were particularly bad being black.
Article written and photos away to the publisher.

It just shows the camouflage works on them.

I actually reckon that the A109 is a really good looking helicopter, and there are not many helicopters in the world that I'd ever say that about. Are they nice to fly, Flyguy1050?

A nice article here: VETERAN ENJOYS WARBIRDS SHOW March 31, 2016 Wanaka Sun Pictured: 92-year-old Clarrie Berryman watching the Catalina flying boat swoop over Lake Wanaka at the free community airshow for Warbirds over Wanaka. Photo: Nikki Heath Wanaka Sun (page 5) Published Thursday March 31, 2016 | Glenda Turnbull – email: journalist@thewanakasun.co.nz Watching the warbirds fly over Lake Wanaka last Friday brought many happy memories back to former RNZAF pilot Clarrie Berryman. Clarrie had a long career as a RNZAF Pilot. He did his pilot training in a Tiger Moth and then served in the Pacific Islands flying Kittyhawks and Corsairs in World War II. He also flew Mustangs and was very lucky to learn how to perform an eight-point roll in a Mustang. After the war he continued his career with the RNZAF and served in Cypress in the 1950s flying Vampires and Venoms. Then Clarrie and his family moved to Singapore where he served in the Malayan emergency as a No 14 Squadron flight commander. Once back on New Zealand soil he continued working with the RNZAF. He spent some time away from flying before resuming his flying duties with Invercargill company Amphibian Airways flying amphibious aircraft between Stewart Island and Invercargill. He then became a flight testing officer for Civil Aviation testing pilots for their private and professional licences. In the 1960s he moved to Christchurch and flew for Mt Cook Airlines. This was his last post before retiring from flying. He also trained pilots to fly the Fokker friendship for Air New Zealand before he retired to Wanaka in the late 1980s. He has lived here ever since. Clarrie’s interest in aviation didn’t end with his retirement….. If you thought low-viz scheme on the A109 was a photographic challenge, try the C-17:
