Pfft! Silver Snipe by Errol Cavit, on Flickr RAAF Museum Pup by Errol Cavit, on Flickr I'm grateful for Photoshop's selection tool, it really is very good, even in low contrast subjects. I'm also grateful for everyone's Wanaka photos, keep them coming!

It might be just me, but I have noticed the NH-90s have like the Hueys a very distinctive noise when they are flying at a distance.
It reminds me of a old Fisher and Paykel washing machine at full tilt on spin cycle!
Also they are brilliant to see at night with their NAV lights on, they light up the main rotor perfectly!

Superb!
I have never seen an RNZAF Hercules put out one of those "smoke angel" defence flares, and I've only seen photos of it being done at Wanaka. Have they done it elsewhere ever?

Aww bless, Zac Yes, the A-109 is a cool looking helo too, a pity the RNZAF doesn't have that many of them. Very cool photos guys. Gav, could you pitch your military ones to Air Forces Monthly? Part of the Key Publishing group, as is Flypast.

It is always possible and conceivable that the RNZAF may add more A-109's and NH90's in future purchase rounds, just as they did with the Iroquois, Orion and Strikemaster and many other types. They are now bedded in as types, training and operation is in full swing, perfect time to expand the fleets - and there's a Defence White Paper coming soon.

One of the displays that I was really looking forward to was the Martin Aircraft P12, usually known as the Jetpack. I have seen static examples of this device, but never one in action. Sure enough, there was Jetpack ZK-JMK carried (dragged?) out for action on the day. As you can see, it requires a starter trolley to get going We were told that due to probelms (CAA certification?) the flight would be unmanned, under radio control. Oh dear. The thing did get going, and appeared to be controllable The thing is tremendously noisy, even from a distance, and has a payload of just 120kg. Recalling the initial concept of a small, low-cost handy method of personal transport (rather like an aerial Segway) and after watching this demonstration, I'm quite glad I don't have any money invested in it.

Yes that is one historic Hiller, great to see.
I agree with you Peter, I fail to see any point in them pursuing that jetpack idea these days, especially since there are now much more suitable, smaller, lighter ones around the world. I can see why Glenn Martin got out of the company.

Weird, I was at that 2007 Whenuapai show and do not recall that at all.
I have seen Skyhawks dumping similar flares over Whenuapai in the pitch black one time when the pilots were doing some night exercise. I was in the CAFE and we heard them buzzing round and went out for a look and saw only nav lights to go with the jet noise then suddenly a big bright chaffe flare. Was cool as.

Was the C-130 attempted a Wheelbarrow move there? Haven't seen that done in years.

Just heard then seen a V12 engined plane passing by Tokoroa at 14:53 Sunday afternoon heading north towards Cambridge - it appeared silver looking into the sun - perhaps the P51 Mustang? Very unusual aircraft sound amongst all the GA and training aircraft around here. The show is over! LOL
