There was a full-page feature in yesterday's Wairarapa Times-Age, but it only appeared in the print edition.

The website was updated overnight. The Gold Pass page doesn't mention Practice Day www.wings.org.nz/gold-passesBut the 'Airshow' page mentions GPs on Friday, and the linked TicketDirect page has them at $95 www.wings.org.nz/airshowprog/Gates open Gates open at 2pm on Practice Day which is somewhat later than 2015 from memory? Might be time to talk to my brothers' Vintage Military Vehicle club... TicketDirect doesn't quite seem to be set up, to get other than Practice Day GP you need a Early Bird password?

Hi good people... I'm wondering if you can confirm the difference between the practice day and the 'air show' days... I'm assuming the flying programme would be the same, but no trade stalls etc?

Last time there was a scheduled programme for the evening (TVAL, basically), but many acts practice (wind willing!) during the day, there are some arrivals. This time Practice day the gates don't open until 2pm, so it looks like they will be doing a bunch of setup etc Friday morning. Maybe they are trying to get aircraft to arrive earlier to clear the airspace for practice then show? Evening is the best time for TVAL, so expect them to feature heavily Friday.

Also, if you are in the Gold Pass enclosure, you get morning and afternoon tea put out in the hospitality marquee each day, plus a full buffet lunch (hot and cold dishes) on both main airshow days, all inclusive of the pass price. I seem to recall they also put on a light meal on the Friday eveniing as well at the last two WoW airshows.
Wings Over Wairarapa definitely offer the best food deal with their Gold Passes out of the three main bi-annual three-day airshows in New Zealand.
The airshow coincides with a five-day rostered long-weekend off (Friday to Tuesday, inclusive) this time, so I should be there all days in the Gold Pass enclosure.
I've got gold passes for myself and friends for Classic Fighters too.

Oh I remember the fine boutique Ales at Masterton last time on the Sunday afternoon, middle of summer - went down really well haha! But this was in the public zone and next door they also those wonderful steak sandwiches! I need to back my chances and plan for it now. Getting there on a Thursday was worthwhile 4 years ago with KA114 arriving Friday morning, we were standing on Manaia Rd, adjacent to the threshold, before they blocked it off haha!

I don't know about other markets but over the past few days I've heard radio ads for the show on The Hits station. It begins!

Mind you, these days I tend to get more excited about The Vintage Aviator's flying weekends than the big bi-annual three-day airshows. I'm not putting those big airshows down (all three of them are superb events), but there is something very special about those intimate flying-weekends at Hood Aerodrome throughout the summer and into autumn.

Kiwithrottlejockey, Yes I have the gig at Wings with Trev again and there is an outside chance at Ohakea so I am told but unfortunately not at Omaka.... so sad. I'd love to be able to do that with my great mate Aeromedia as it is on my bucket list of shows. I'll be there anyway as I was last time enjoying the ambience and fine wine and all you guys bagging me!

A couple of interesting articles appeared in the print edition of today's Wairarapa Times-Age, but they aren't currently on their website. Also, THIS aviation-related article appeared in the Wairarapa Midweek (free weekly newspaper published by the Wairarapa Times-Age) which was delivered today. The Wairarapa Times-Age was purchased by local interests and split from NZME about three months ago, and have since hired an additional five journalists and increased the local content substantially. I've noticed local advertising content increase by a huge amount over the same time period too, so it's good to see them doing well as an independent daily again.

This just in: Spring has SprungWith the Spring weather comes Spring events and in this newsletter you have a chance to win tickets to the Wairarapa's premium wine and food event - Toast Martinborough, this Sunday 20th November. We've got confirmation that the RNZAF Black Falcons will debut at Wings; and more information about our excellent value 3 day pass. But before we talk more about Wings lets take a moment to thank the Defence Force; helicopter businesses and other pilots; emergency personnel; farmers; builders and anyone else who has helped someone in need during a week of terrible weather and earthquakes. We've been fortunate in the Wairarapa and our beautiful region is reasonably untouched, but it breaks our hearts to see footage of other regions which haven't been so lucky. For only $90 per adult you can buy an exceptional value 3 day pass for Wings. With your entry to all 3 days of Wings you'll also get a ticket to your preferred day of the RNZAF Air Tattoo and entry to the Masterton A & P Show on 18 February. It's fantastic value and a wonderful idea for Christmas. There are some conditions and further information so please visit wings.org.nz. The RNZAF Black Falcons
Wings 2017 will feature, the newly formed Royal New Zealand Air Force Black Falcons, who've replaced the former RNZAF display team, the Red Checkers. The five T-6C Texan II aircraft, all piloted by experienced RNZAF pilot instructors, will thrill visitors with an aerobatic display over Hood Aerodrome. Squadron Leader Brett Clayton says the Black Falcons are midway through their work up season and are now linking all of the individual pilot flying components into the display. “The aircraft are performing very well; the Texans have nice handling characteristics. We’ve got to keep in mind that these are large aircraft, not the smaller CT4’s that the Red Checkers previously used, and there are things that the CT4’s could do that we can’t do with the Texans.” About the T-6C Texan II:Length: 10.16m (33ft.4in) Wingspan: 10.19m (33ft.5in) Propellers: 4 bladed Hartzell Propeller Gross weight: 2.858kg (6,300lb) Cruise speed: 515km/h (278kts) Max speed: 586km/h (316kts) Max range: 1,667km Toast Martinborough - New Zealand’s premier wine, food and music festival, always marks the beginning of spring in the heart of the Wairarapa wine growing region, and this year the locals will be pulling out all the stops. “Back in 1992 when Toast began, the newest tipple was Nouveau Rouge and Shortland Street had just come on our TV’s. The Bodyguard album was number one in the charts and asparagus rolls and seafood vol-au-vents were on the menu at Toast Martinborough. Twenty-five years later, it’s great to be able to look back and keep elements that make Toast Martinborough such a unique experience, but also step things up a level. It’s a very exciting year for us” says General Manager Anna Nielson. “This year we’ll be bringing out the Silver Service and celebrating all that it means to be a mature, and well established event. It’s a rare milestone for a festival to reach. With the partnership and support of our award-winning vineyards, we have created a premium wine, food and music event with the unique opportunity to bring friends and family together in a safe, yet fun environment.” There are limited tickets available via www.ticketek.co.nz , 0800 TICKETEK and Ticketek outlets nationwide – . Visit the Toast Martinborough website or head to facebook.com/toastmart. We are giving you the opportunity to WIN two tickets to Toast Martinborough’s 25th Silver Anniversary this Sunday the 20th November. All you need to enter is email info@wings.org.nz by Friday 18th November at 12pm with the name of Wing's new naming rights sponsor and the new dates of Wings Over Wairarapa 2017. I forgot it was Toast Martinborough this weekend.
I'm working late-shift too, which means I've got to uplift a trainload of drunks from Featherston and transport them through to Wellington.
However, for me, the main spring event in Wairarapa is the following weekend at Hood Aerodrome.
Counting down to Wings Over Wairarapa (and Classic Fighters)....I've got gold passes for both!

There was a new (to me) Wings radio ad yesterday promoting the Black Falcons' debut. Great to hear mainstream media - even if it is an ad - showcasing the team.

The AeroSPARX night display looks utterly bonkers! A must see to be sure. Does anyone know how long they'll be in country? (i.e.: I wonder if they'll stick around for CF as well?)
