Yes, I was wondering about that. I've been meaning to get to Art Deco for a while.

Clashes with Art-Deco at Napier. Have Napier firmly set their dates and announced it?

Thanks. Great for people travelling the region I guess, they can visit Masterton, Napier and Ohakea in the space of a few days.

Given the Ohakea show is closer to home I'm not sure if I'll go down to Hood, but I'll keep my eyes on displays/attractions as they're announced.
With that said, and knowing me, I'll probably be there for one day at least!

Napier Aero Club is the organiser of the annual Aero Deco weekend based at the Hawkes Bay airport. This is traditionally held in conjunction with and as part of Napier’s hugely popular and city-wide Art Deco programme. The success and attendance at Aero Deco continues to grow and is now attracting an international reputation. As a consequence of a significant amount of sponsorship and support arranged by the Aero Club the aircraft displays along Napier’s waterfront are free entertainment for the thousands who view them from the Marine Parade and beachfront. These aerial displays, one of the City’s popular showpieces for the Art Deco celebrations, are flown at scheduled times published ahead in the Art Deco programmes, on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays of the Art Deco weekend. The organisation needed for putting on the next Aero Deco requires a lot of lead time and advance planning on the part of the Aero Club. The Club has clarified with the key owners and operators of pre 1945 civil and military aircraft who traditionally attend Aero Deco that, as in the past, their intention is to attend the Aero Deco set down for 17 – 19 February 2017.

Whoops. In the third line above I meant to say that it is Art Deco (not Aero Deco) that is attracting an international reputation.

I think when he said "in the week following" he may have meant in the week following, rather than the weekend following? Hopefully slackie can clarify

Quite possibly, but the chances of it being on display in NZ are stunningly small.

Yes "in the week following" so most of us will probably come for the airshow and stay for the aerobatics comp... unofficial practice Monday, Tuesday, competition Wednesday thru Saturday, prizegiving Saturday evening, home via OH on Sunday??

Hmm...wonder if Avspecs next Mozzie will be up & running by then? Last I heard of a Mosquito at a Kiwi airshow was Warren Denholm suggesting he would petition the owner of PZ474/ZK-BCV to go to Wanaka 2018.

It'd be cool if they do a Pilatus Turbo Porter display, I have never seen one in action.

It'd be cool if they do a Pilatus Turbo Porter display, I have never seen one in action. If you're ever around Mount Cook Village and you've got the financial wherewithall, go for a flight in one of Mount Cook Ski Planes' Pilatus Porter skiplanes. They are just made for that mountain environment. They may be a real ugly duckling, but they can turn on some rather high performance amongst the mountains. Even better, ask the pilot to carry out a “beta” approach on arrival back at Mount Cook Airport, but make sure your seatbelt is tight first. This piece of footage was taken by a friend of mine during a flight in one of the skiplanes way back in 2009. He didn't know I had quietly arranged with the pilot for a “beta” approach to give them all a thrill.

MEDIA RELEASE
31st August 2016
AVIATION TREAT FOR LOWER NORTH ISLAND
Wings Over Wairarapa Air Festival 2017 now in February
A change in dates for the iconic Wings Over Wairarapa Air Festival in 2017 has provided a boon for the lower North Island with two exciting, but significantly different air events being held in February 2017.
The Wings Over Wairarapa Air Festival is changing its 2017 dates to 17-19 February to align with the Royal New Zealand Air Force Air Tatoo at Ohakea, taking place the following weekend, 25-26 February.
Wings over Wairarapa Air Festival will feature all types of aircraft and aspects of aviation on the ground and in the skies and the following weekend the Royal New Zealand Air Force will feature a tattoo displaying all military aircraft.
Wings Over Wairarapa General Manager, Jenny Gasson says the change in dates mean aviation enthusiasts are in for a real treat next February.
“We’ve consistently had a close relationship with the Royal New Zealand Air Force. They will continue to work with us to provide aircraft and static displays for our Festival.”
Mrs Gasson said February’s new dates will also be a little kinder to guests with warm, settled weather typically seen in the Wairarapa and not as many local families away on school holidays.
“We really value our local audience. In January a lot of families are still away on Christmas holidays, but in February most people will be back to school and work and this event gives them something very exciting to look forward too,” she says.
Destination Wairarapa General Manager David Hancock says having the two events a week apart is particularly good for international visitors.
“We’ve already had confirmation from a tour group in the United Kingdom they are coming to attend Wings Over Wairarapa then remaining in the Greater Wellington Region before heading to Ohakea to attend the air tattoo,” he says. “We are also working with the New Zealand Motorhome Caravan Association to develop touring routes for its members during that time too so they get to experience the best hospitality the Wairarapa, Wellington and Manawatu has to offer.”
Pre sales tickets for Wings over Wairarapa Air Festival go on sale Thursday, 1st September 2016. Mrs Gasson says as a team they’ve had a really good look at the ticketing pricing. This means there are
three options including Gold Pass tickets; or One and Three Day Passes. The Three Day Pass is exceptional value as it includes a ticket to the Royal New Zealand Air Force tattoo as well. There will also be a special offer for Wairarapa residents. For more information visit wings.org.nz.
