I think AeroSPARX are going to make that Friday evening airshow a “must-see” event.
It looks pretty spectacular in the video clips, I can't wait to see it for real.

The newspaper clip says Saturday night, just to inject some confusion...

Actually, you're right....it is Saturday night, as stated on the website. And the Saturday night show is a stand-alone event and you need a separate airshow ticket for it, but I'm not sure if that also applies to Gold Pass holders, although I see they are selling a VIP pass to the night show, which for $50 includes a BBQ dinner and access to a hospitality marquee (Gold Pass enclosure?). A basic ticket to the night show costs $15 for adults, $5 for kids, or $25 for a family pass. Tickets for the night show go on sale tomorrow (Thursday, 1st December).

That'll be fun, they will clear the site and have everyone present their separate ticket at a gate then? Including 3 day pass holders.

It looks like it.
Perhaps gatecrashing the bar at the local aero club, or the Sport & Vintage Aviation Society bar for a few hours may mean you don't have to drive out, then join the madhouse driving back in again. Something to consider I guess.
Mind you, I guess getting that AeroSPARX team out to New Zealand with their aeroplanes for a one-off appearance wouldn't come cheap, so I suppose they've got to pay for it somehow.

Official Media Release 7 December 2016 UK AeroSPARX Team Ready to Stun New Zealand CrowdsA world renowned display team flying motor gliders with wing-tip pyrotechnic capabilities will make their New Zealand debut at the 2017 Wings over Wairarapa Air Festival. The UK based AeroSPARX team will showcase their spectacular flying performance at the Air Festival being held at Masterton’s Hood Aerodrome from 17-19th February 2017. As part of the Wings programme they will perform two daytime displays on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th February, and they will also perform in a special one-off evening show on Saturday 18th February which is a new addition to the Wings Programme. The evening show will feature a different flying programme than during the day, with smoke and wing-tip pyrotechnics on the gliders painting a remarkable picture in the sky for spectators. AeroSPARX are a world renowned display team who have showcased their display flights across the United Kingdom and Europe; but they have never been seen in New Zealand before. The motor gliders used in the air displays are the Grob109b, modified to perform aerobatics with smoke, lights and pyrotechnics. The big wings provide an impressive level of glide performance and give the aerobatic display the grace of a glider. The team of two will be led by display pilot Guy Westgate, who is famous for introducing pyrotechnic displays into the UK, and thrilling crowds across Europe and the Middle East in his stunt gliders, the S-1 Swift and MDM-1 Fox. Tim Dews is the second pilot of the AeroSPARX duo. Tim runs a successful business he started in 1986, maintaining aircraft and gliders in the UK, and is recognized on the circuit as an extremely accomplished display pilot. AeroSPARX will be flying above Hood Aerodrome in Masterton to showcase the best of their big wings, quality formation flying and spectacular wing-tip pyrotechnics. Wings over Wairarapa Chair, Bob Francis says the addition of the night show is an exciting development for the Air Festival. “For 2017 we wanted to ramp up the flying programme and bring in new features to keep our loyal fans engaged and to attract new audiences. The night show will have a very different flying programme and with the Aerosparx team coming over from the UK for our show, it’s going to be a spectacular weekend of flying.” Aerosparx Team Leader, Guy Westgate says the Grob is unique amongst air show types, as it has a special clearance to fly at night.

I hadn't noticed the "neons" on the fuselage sides before, that would really add to the display!

I went ahead and purchased a $50 VIP pass to the Night Show on the Saturday evening.
I've already got a Gold Pass for the weekend, so I decided I may as well bite the bullet and ensure I could stay in the Gold Pass grandstand for the AeroSPARX night display. Besides, the cost of the VIP pass includes a BBQ dinner, so that suits me.

The last two Wings Over Wairarapa airshows, a number of us from this group met-up for a few beers and a meal. In 2013 it was at the sports bar at The Horseshoe, in 2015 it was at The Farriers (which The Horseshow became in an extensive redevelopment). Is it worthwhile arranging another similar meet-up next month during Wings Over Wairarapa? The last two airshows, we met up on the Saturday evening, but this time the Night Show is happening on Saturday, so perhaps Friday evening could be a better time? Any thoughts on this? If we did have a similar meet-up, it could be at The Farriers again (right next to the roundabout at the northern end of Masterton CBD), or perhaps at the Lone Star (on the corner of Dixon and Church streets). It would probably be advisable to book a large table due to the number of people who will be in town (there are several other events on that weekend, including the Masterton A&P Show), although we would probably get away with holding-off making a booking until the week immediately before the airshow weekend.
