There are so many events being held over summer now that it is impossible to pick a weekend that doesnt clash with something - There is literally something happening every weekend for the next few months. This weekend for example, the SAA National Fly In (Great Plains) clashes with the Omaka STOL comps. Last year the Fly-In clashed with Art Deco Weekend (in the same area). It happens... and its a good inidcator on the level of aviation activity that is actually happening now, for which we can be grateful...

True that Bruce... and then there's all the non aviation events on just this weekend... Guns & Roses (couldn't think of anything worse!), Leadfoot Festival in Hahei, IWSF Asia Oceania Water Skiing Champs in Auckland and Karapiro... choices choices choices!

Then you have to factor in inconsiderate family scheduling weddings, reunions, even funerals without consulting the aviation calendar.

I particularly like the “Tribute to No.14 Squadron” slot in the airshow display timetable.
They did exactly this at the last airshow. I had suggested the idea to them. However instead of a massed formation as I'd suggested they did it in dribs and drabs and all the impact was somehow lost. No. 14 Squadron never operated Mosquitoes. No, they are missing an Oxford.

I stand corrected, Dave. I'd simply presumed that Mosquitos were operated by both 14 and 75 Squadrons.
I've actually got a short history of 14 Squadron in booklet form somewhere.
I may have purchased it from SVAS at some point, although I'm not sure where it is.

No. 14 Squadron was operating Corsairs and then Vampires while No. 75 Squadron had the Mossies.
Wikipedia states they briefly operated Mosquitoes after returning from Japan before converting to Vampires but my understanding is the aircrew actually went through the Jet Conversion unit, which was administrated by No. 75 Squadron, and if they'd used Mossies they';d have been No. 75 Squadron aircraft. Several of the Corsair pilots had already converted to the Meteor in 1946. I have never seen any record of Mosquitoes being allocated to No. 14 Squadron itself. I am sure if I am wrong DavidD can fill in the details.
I believe the Oxfords were used as unit hacks and instrument trainers, etc, just as they had on most of the operational squadrons in WWII.

No. 14 Squadron also flew Skyhawks, I doubt we'll ever see one of them flying at an airshow again in New Zealand.

Zac, yeh will do, if I am not too stretched with jobs between competition flights I want to do a bit of a video of the week but will have to see how time goes with that one. I have filled the seat for the trip up, hopefully we get a nice pleasant trip, anything but well pretty much every other day this summer thus far. Slackie, I cannot believe what you just said about GNR, I'll pretend I never heard that. Won't say too much about the conflict of events except that it is very unfortunate and that I am really looking forward to the show and to lots of good fun flying over the next few weeks. Here is a snap from the National Champs held in 2016 held at Hood Aerdrome - lots of variety in hardware. Fred Zayas appearing to be far too comfortable between flights.

The last two Wings Over Wairarapa airshows, a number of us from this group met-up for a few beers and a meal. In 2013 it was at the sports bar at The Horseshoe, in 2015 it was at The Farriers (which The Horseshow became in an extensive redevelopment). Is it worthwhile arranging another similar meet-up next month during Wings Over Wairarapa? The last two airshows, we met up on the Saturday evening, but this time the Night Show is happening on Saturday, so perhaps Friday evening could be a better time? Any thoughts on this? If we did have a similar meet-up, it could be at The Farriers again (right next to the roundabout at the northern end of Masterton CBD), or perhaps at the Lone Star (on the corner of Dixon and Church streets). It would probably be advisable to book a large table due to the number of people who will be in town (there are several other events on that weekend, including the Masterton A&P Show), although we would probably get away with holding-off making a booking until the week immediately before the airshow weekend. I'm in town from Thursday evening thru to Monday morning, so yes I'd be keen to meet up. At this stage I fly in on Friday until Sat 25th... keen for some "refreshments" I'm flying into Palmy Friday am and driving over for Practice Day. Plan to stay at my cousin's in Feilding, and fly back home Saturday am. Once we have a decent weather forecast + planned displays, I'll consider staying until late Saturday afternoon. So if there is something Friday after the show I'll swing by for a quick one. I am really hoping for great - CALM - weather Fri through Sunday. I suggested a "Dawn Patrol" event literally at dawn to try and get over the TVAL wind related problems as a separate air show event. DP guests to be housed in the VIP tent, a champers and egg/bacon roll brekkie and after its over (unless the DP guests are already VIPs or Gold Passes) everyone is out of the VIP area. Thought that may work but too late to implement. Maybe next time if there is enough interest shown. Anyway, rain hail or shine I am looking forward to coming over and seeing old friends again Peter Lewis contacted me via personal message to see if this has gone any further. We will probably meet up for drinks and a meal on Friday evening, and again on Sunday evening after it is all over. So, shall we say The Farriers on Friday evening? Then perhaps Lone Star on Sunday evening? Any comments on this? Are you other chaps still interested? Peter (Ando), I presume you will be rather busy with commentary stuff, but you're welcome to join us if you can fit it in. Anybody else interested? It might pay to book a table at each venue as there is a lot on in Wairarapa this weekend besides the airshow. So knowing approximate numbers for each venue could be helpful. I'll make a booking for Friday evening at The Farriers on Thursday evening after I finish work. Perhaps make a booking for a table on Sunday evening at Lone Star on either Friday evening or sometime on Saturday.

Ex RNZAF Strikemaster NZ6372 and the Christchurch based ex Saudi Strikemaster will be displaying together at WOW. A pairs routine will be flown by Dave Brown and Mark Helliwell....... Has this been confirmed, it has been very quiet in ChCh lately ?

Dunno about the Saudi one, but I read (I think on NZCA) that 72 is already at Hood ready to go.
So far the weather looks a little wet but not much wind - potentially good news for the TVAL fleet!

Thanks Errol but I haven't heard a Blunty flying about for a while. I doubt the one in ChCh has left it's hangar this week and I suspect anything up in the other island may be out of earshot.... even for one of them.

I heard a jet flying around the other morning when I was in the shower before heading off to work, but I cannot remember if it was yesterday morning, or Monday morning.
Who is likely to turn up at The Farriers on Friday evening?
So far, I've got four confirmed. I need to book a table tomorrow (Thursday) evening.
I've also got four confirmed for dinner at Lone Star on Sunday evening after the airshow, but we could probably get away with leaving making that booking until Saturday evening at the latest.
