I had absolutely no issues in 2012 either. I went with John Fallon and his stepson Jared. I think we were the fourth car in the gate after it opened, and frankly we had no idea at all there had been an issue till we got on the forum later that evening and we were pretty shocked to see all the moaning as we'd had a fantastic day.

The other thing to note here: in the wake of 2012, the comms this time around did not instill confidence, either! Just read back on this thread.
The armed forces should (surely) be top notch in the disciplines of logistics and communications. And no, that doesn't include streaming video to Facebook. I hope that didn't take resource from any other tasks needed on the day!

The point has certainly not been missed by me Errol, even though I was not affected directly.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't NZ4206 a P3K2? That was parked both days until about 1630 Sunday in front of the Australian C-17 and a Singaporean C-130. NZ4202 was the active one. Another aircraft I think should have been on display, which I'm sure I did see on the Feilding bound bus, just as we were leaving, was an Iroquois. It was hidden somewhat behind a building. As for the bus going the wrong way that seems very strange although I'm not disputing it. All the buses seemed to be traveling in pairs or threesomes so why one driver failed to keep with others or follow the clearly marked road signs erected for the buses I don't know. The (correct) entrance my buses used was signposted "VIP and bus entrance". As for the air show I thought it was very good although I gathered it was meant to go right through to 1600. I know the exact spot you are refering to - but all day Saturday a very fat-slug like (but still gorgeous!) C-130H was sitting there - definitely no P3K2 - must've changed over before Sunday.

I only remember one P-3 being at the base on Saturday, 02 which flew. I was disappointed not to be able to go through one or even under it.

I only remember one P-3 being at the base on Saturday, 02 which flew. I was disappointed not to be able to go through one or even under it. At Whenuapai in 2009 there was a P-3K on static with a line running through it all day. I wasn't that fussed about taking a look but had been alongside and chatting all day to a lady whose son was serving 5SQN aircrew. At the conclusion of the flying display she (rather embarrassingly for me) collared him and I was taken to the front of the still considerable line. He told me it would probably be my last chance to look through a P-3 as they were beginning the K2 mods and no-one would be allowed through them any more. I guess that would only hold true for a while, though.

Nope you're wrong. We stayed at the Sanson camping ground which is virtually on the edge of the base, and we got up early and went past Ohakea while the gate was still closed as it was early as, and we saw all the signs and the coned lanes ready for the traffic - but we kept on going past to the McDonalds at Bulls for breakfast; then we came back just as the main gate was opening. It was signposted for sure, there were RNZAF people at the gate checking tickets of the cars in front and a fat WAAF checked our tickets and waved us through. It was all above board, I have no idea why you might have the idea we "sailed on through" and snuck in - we drove out onto SH1 to Bulls and back. You were on a side ride which for some reason someone was choking up if you were stuck that early in the day. We never passed any lines of stopped cars, there were none. We were following the signs and direction from people at the main gate. Maybe later they changed what they were doing and shut the main gate later once our carpark was full, but we did not bypass the directions of the people managing the gate. If we were in the wrong place they'd have told us to buzz off.
Whoever was managing the end where you were parked is probably the one that f**ked the whole thing up?

My best mate Mike and I went down today. A 4.00am rise for a 5.00am departure this morning, and we just go back home to Cambridge at 11.30pm, so a bloody long day. But wow, an excellent show with amazing flying, and brilliant organisation all round. Well done to the RNZAF and all their associates and volunteers, what a great job you've all done. Well down to all the visiting Air Forces and civil planes, adding to the spectacle. Highlights in the flying display for me: - The F-16 display - first time I have seen any F-16's, and blown away. Awesome! My mouth was gaping all the way through. Thriling to finally see the legendary F-16 in action, and flown so well too. - The Black Falcons - a perfect display this afternoon, amazing precision, excellent formation flying. The beginning of something really big, for sure - The first F-18 Hornet display, that bit where he started drifting like a car - my jaw dropped! So did Mike's. I have seen a few F-18 displays now, and today that was by far the best I have ever seen. Biggest mistake - I got on the bus from the Bulls carpark and as we were driving off to go to Ohakea I suddenly realised my camera was stillin the car. But it was 9.35am and I had been told the F-16 was flying at 10.00am... By the time we arrived at Ohakea and disembared it was 9.45am. I decided i would not go back forthe camera till after the F-16 display, as there was no way I wanted to be on a bus when it began and miss the whole thing. So... somebody changed the programme and they never made it particularly clears as to when the F-16 was actually flying. Si I watched act after act and eventually the F-16 came out just before the lunch break. By that time I was so settled and enjoying the show without the camera I decided not to even bother going to get it. So I took zero photos today! And I enjoyed the experience of watching the whole show without seeing half of it through a lens. Biggest surprise - apart from Mike who I went with, and our old mate Steve and his girlfriend Bianca who I'd arranged to meet up with, I never saw a single person I know through the whole show (other than in the air displaying). It was not till we got on the bus at the end that I saw Wayne Bradley the first and only forum member I spotted and chatted with. So, like the experience of taking no photos, this was a first for me for many years. Usually at airshows I see dozens of friends from the forum, and while I do love catching up with friends it was really nice to just do my own thing today too with the friends I went with. Honourable mention - I'd like to say well down to the organiser/s who came up with the brilliant idea of putting toilets in the carpark at Bulls for those of us who had just arrived from a long road trip, and the coffee cart there too for those heading off on another road trip at the end of the event. Really appreciated brainstorms. It's the wee details like this that we noticed that were much appreciated. Well done Ohakea, you have done the RNZAF and New Zealand very proud! Dave - glad to read you enjoyed seeing the "grey & soul-less" jets The show looked well executed from the photos I've seen as well as the numerous Facebook posts building up to and during the show. Wish I'd been here to see Klinky & the lads with their debut (Black Falcons) but hope to catch them at a NZ show in the future or perhaps Avalon in 2019 Speaking of which.... two more sleeps and Melbourne here we come!

In that case I totally missed 06 - I never saw it on Saturday, but to be fair from lunchtime onwards I stayed around the crowdline and jet park. Up til then it was helis > Singapore Herc > RNZAF Herc > RAAF C-17 > fence > Seasprite. Disappointing as I was keen to have a look!

It went on display after the massed formation flypast in the afternoon (which didn't happen on the Saturday despite all of the aircraft taking off for it!).

P-3 NZ4202 was the active one, NZ4206 was on static display on both days. It was interesting to walk around and under the P-3 to look at all of its additional antennas and apendidges since the avionics upgrade. Very impressive.

Dave - glad to read you enjoyed seeing the "grey & soul-less" jets Yeah, they were OK. Still grey, soulless, pointy, noisy things but it made for something a bit different. The Hornet displays on the Sunday were far better than the one I saw at Temora in 2015 which bored me to tears. And the F-16 was brilliant, not just because it was an awesome display in itself but it was the first and probably the last opportunity I've ever had to see one fly. Even the not-so-pointy C-17 was damned cool, nice to see it do the slow-as blimp impression, I thought they didn't do that anymore since one fell out of the sky in Germany attempting that.
