Teresa and I stayed with Don Simms and his mate Blair Price(also an ex A4 man from the RNZAF). We all enjoyed the show and had a great time post show chatting about what we liked and loved. Those fireworks were a blast (see what I did there?) Had us all laughing with the Up Down portion of the "Those Magnificent men in their Flying Machines" and gobsmacked with Coldplay's "Sky full of stars" at the end. Incredible.
Considering the weather we were lucky to get a show at all and just think about the fact that machines made by man break down. They do it at the worst times sometimes boo hoo, what was there was great to see hear and smell.
Managed not to get tomato sauce on anyone this year but did get some mud on my gumboots doing the Somme recreation.
No Austers cluttering up the display line this show but I do hear one was in a hangar which I presume was Andrew Vincents stead AZF? Did bump into another Auster owner who has fallen in love with Guy Clapshaw's Vega Gull and would like to buy it! (Guy, you on here? )
I left the camera duties to Teresa as she has the good camera now and she has got some great shots including this gem of the two Yak3s. Certainly can see the differences in nose profiles:
I took the occasional shot. Here's is my flying boot (cough cough) with some genuine Omaka mud on it (to EBay!)
And a general shot with my favourite aircraft the mighty Avenger in shot.
Oh and this mighty beast was a hoot:
Also I hear a rumour that as the little railway engine in Blenheim now goes out to Omaka perhaps the reinactors might like this:
My only concern now? What the hell are these guys going to do for 2019? Have they done the Pacific Island war? (Probably be one prior to my first show (2009)?)
Anyway well done to the organising committee who pulled off a great show under very trying conditions.
