I didn't realise that about the La-9 Dave, that's very disappointing to learn. On the bright side, though, I feel very lucky to have seen it perform so many times before it left. A very special machine and a real revelation to someone whose knowledge of Soviet piston fighters had, until that point, been about Polis and Yaks.

Did anyone get some good photos of Restoration Row? I didn't, I'm afraid.

Remember on Friday when I said "Excuse me, I'm just getting photos while the light is good and there aren't many people around."? They are in the virtual pile.

Dave Just remind what you expected to see in restoration row. I might have some photos (I also might not!!) as my son was roving around with the iPad shooting all sorts. KS

Nice day to be parked at Omaka, nice wee aero display by Harvard 7660 including a nice fast pass over the car park to finish, then to see a Texan II doing fast passes at woodbourne! On the ground enjoying the sun we have the big Bristol, DC3, CJ6. Tiger moth, super cub, comper swift, plus all the GA aircraft on the field.

That's a delightful video. The two things that made the biggest impression on me were the way the Camel leaped into the air and the butter smooth landing Kermit pulled off in the Snipe. Their little post flight debrief is interesting too.

Regarding that riverside miniature railway they've got at Blenheim, which they extended to the Aviation Heritage Centre before Classic Fighters airshow earlier this year. Look at what they're running on that railway now....a real live steam locomotive hauling some of their trains.... It would be interesting to know if they run that locomotive all the way to the end of the line at Omaka Aerodrome.

That's a delightful video. The two things that made the biggest impression on me were the way the Camel leaped into the air and the butter smooth landing Kermit pulled off in the Snipe. Their little post flight debrief is interesting too. Yes but that was not all of the debrief though, we talked through the rest later. We had one shot at a photo flight with that pair, it had not been done before so we moved a lot around to make it work. We left before the WW1 scenario began in a Stearman and waited behind the airfield and when that big dogfight was nearly over we would make our way to the airfield to meet up with the Sopwith pair. The pair picked us up quickly, Gene has great eyes and they joined as we were on our way back to the airfield and as nothing was flying over the lunch break we could fly over the airfield. However a minute or so out a DC3 was about to line up for a quick test flight following some work and as we had a radio we heard all that and would wait for the DC3 to take off, the WW1 aircraft were permitted to land whenever they wanted to, ATC would hear them coming and would make room but we waited and as it happened the Sopwith pair stayed on our wing which is a common practice. Once the DC3 cleared we were finished the photo flight anyway, such is the way when you fly with good pilots, everyone landed. At the time the WW1 guys didn't know what we were doing but once we explained it all made sense! It nearly went as planned but you can always bet on a few extra things to pop up along the way.
