You're living the dream, gyrocaptain! Seconding what Ando said, perhaps leave your most recent Classic Wings or other mag open at the classifieds too!
Adam, unfortunately as you know I'm at the wrong end of the country to take up your offer (and unable to afford a ride this time anyway) but hopefully you can make the numbers. What a way to travel to an airshow!
Corsair, Spitfire XIV and Mustang would be worthy competitors for Steadfast. At Reno P-40s have appeared but they don't seem to do as well and generally stay in Bronze so I'd expect NZ3009 and Currawong to be involved only to make up the numbers. Now if someone pulls a Sea Fury or Bearcat out of the hat...

Tigerpilot30, Let me know if that is to happen........... nice jaunt over the wineries just the thing! Unfortunately I cannot afford the alternative larger pointy nosed machine this trip I sure will. Basically it`ll cost $1000 per person return for those wanting to arrive at Omaka in the Dominie. The aim is to fly up before the weekend, and return after. You`re able to jump on at any location. The best value for money will be to jump on at Mandeville. If you jump on in Christchurch it`ll also cost you $1000 return. You`re most welcome to be creative ie take the flight up, and have a friend take the flight home. It`ll be a wonderful journey, would love to have you aboard!! Call me on 021 084 305 13.

If you get the fare-paying passengers to make it up to Omaka, what sort of cost per seat would you be looking at for a joyride around the Omaka area?
As I already mentioned, I'd definitely be interested and I could probably fill another three seats (making it four in total) and possibley even another five seats (six in total including myself) for a local area joyride. And it sounds as though Ando (Mustang 51) is definitely interested, so that is a minimum of five, and possibly seven. Perhaps late on Friday afternoon after the rest of the flying has finished? Or at the end of the flying on the Saturday?

Watched - and listened to! - a couple of cool clips online last night of Steadfast, and I see Mr Conroy's already made a photo flight with her! Two weeks to go!

Here are two photos yesterday from Steadfast's first flight in New Zealand. It is an amazing performer so if you haven't bought tickets for the show yet I suggest you do as you are in for a treat. Pilot James Crockett bought two engineers over with him and they headed back to Australia today as they have a bit on over there and will be back before the show.

It's far better looking than the regular Yak 3's, which I have never found particularly attractive.

They actually built one with the big radial just after the war but it never went into production

She's got a bit of an La-5FN vibe going. Apart from the tail, oh and the wings and... Well a *bit* of a vibe at any rate! I'm looking forward to seeing this one in action.

It's far better looking than the regular Yak 3's, which I have never found particularly attractive. Do you mean the V12 Allison Yak 3? Come on they are much better looking with a Spitfire vibe going on than big bertha here. You been drinking Purple Death? Put up one of Gavin's photos of the Frew Yak beside this one, you'll come around.

Yes, the Allison engined ones, not particularly attractive. The tail looks like an afterthought on them. They are cool to watch displaying but Steadfast looks so much more powerful and meaningful in the air. As I've said, it's like La-9 Lite. And the La-9 was the ultimate piston fighter.

I can hear the distinctive sound of an Allison V12 engine in the skies above Masterton.
I guess a particular P-40 is being exercised in readiness for Classic Fighters.

Must admit the work done on the Kiwi Yak 3's makes them a far better looking and more original looking machine than those overseas. That stupid intake on the overseas ones 'annoys' me and its down to GEM and their ducting work!

That is not terribly promising. But it's still early! It's a ten-day forecast and a lot can happen in ten days. Besides, I'd be more worried if I saw a fine spell leading up towards the end of that forecast period, then the weather turning to crap on the last day. Click on the link tomorrow and you'll have the forecast for Good Friday, remembering of course that it is ten days hence. Same on Saturday and Sunday. You've always got to be the eternal optimist when it comes to weather and airshows. In all the years (well, decades, actually) I've been going to major airshows, I've only ever had one day of a three-day airshow cancelled due to weather on a single occasion, and an entire airshow cancelled due to weather also on a single occasion. I've even been at an airshow (Wanaka) where it actually snowed briefly, yet the show went on. So based on past experience averaged over all those years, you've got to consider that it is unlikely for it all to turn to crap.
