At least you've got an Air NZ service out of Hamilton, Dave.
Flights to and from Masterton had almost totally-full load-factors most of the time, so Air NZ rewarded us for that sort of support by pulling the plug.

But there's a big difference between Hamilton and Masterton. Masterton is merely a town. Hamilton is a major city with the fourth largest population in NZ, and the airport supports a huge much wider region beyond the city limits too including at least seven major towns.
The lack of competition and pathetic lack of services at a city airport is appalling enough, but why is it day after day all the other city airports, and even some small town airports, have grab-a-seats for Africa and yet Hamilton so seldom has any specials? It's because having a single airline monopoly at Hamilton Airport means the people of the Waikato are undoubtedly subsidising the cheap routes offered in other places though the constantly high prices of tickets here. It's not at all fair.

Full does not necessarily mean profitable. I seem to remember that during their NZ operations someone calculated that the BAe146's breakeven point was at 115% of maximum capacity - or thereabouts.

That's been discussed before, at length, on this forum. I'm no Mod but can I politely suggest we stick to CF17 rather than airline profitability?
Speaking of which, I heard somewhere that the Wanaka-based Mustang may be coming up this time!!! It's been ages since I last saw Dove of Peace flying, I hope it's true.

Dove of Peace was for sale but it doesn't seem to be on the market any more... and is more active. Did the ownership change at all?

CAA says it's still with Mustang Flights of Wanaka which from memory is original owner Robert Borrius-Broek(sp?).

Hi guys!!
Thought it might be helpful to mention that we're aiming to bring the Dominie/ Dragon Rapide up from Mandeville for the airshow, and looking to pick people up on the way to cover costs. Is this appealing to anyone? If so, let me know and I can start compiling a list and report back on costs and timings. It might be a daily service from Christchurch, or maybe a drop off at the start of the show, and a return after the show. Let me know your thoughts :-)
Cheers,
Adam

Are you likely to be offering joyride flights out of Omaka in the Dominie during Easter weekend?

Spitfire XIV and Corsair would be he closest piston powered competition surely? Perhaps Simon Gault will bring his Thunder Mustang, I do recall him fasted piston powered aircraft in NZ a few years ago at Classic Fighters! Then again I wonder how a RNZAF Texan 2 would go?

Spitfire XIV NH799 has had full power engine runs, and the Catalina is expected to attend, missed her from the lineup 2 years ago.

Hello!! We`d love to, will have to report closer to the time. At this stage we`re looking for interested people to join us travelling north to Classic Fighters from Southland to help offset the cost of it making the journey. If we can make the journey then we`ll be sure to offer rides. Cheers, Adam :-)

I am likewise interested in a wee jaunt over the vineyards of Marlborough. I may even bring another three people, or even possibly another five people with me. depending on when during the weekend any joyride flight takes place. What sort of cost per person would you be thinking of?

It'd be great if you could get the Rapide up to Omaka. I suspect there would be no shortage of passengers once it was there. Having taken a few flights in Taniwha back at CF13 my partner and I would definitely be in for some flights in Tui at CF17 if it all pans out okay. She's always been particularly keen the old DH's which was only exacerbated those flights and I have a sneaking suspicion she'd like to get hold of a Moth of some sort once she converts to tail-draggers...

gyrocaptain, that one's a keeper and keep dropping those Trade-a-Plane or other aircraft classifieds on the table when you have a coffee........
