Welcome bristolscout1264! Yes, I have followed your significant project, it's remarkable history and Gene's test flying. It's looking very authentic. Congratulations.

It certainly will be most welcome - it will be a less lonely place as the only Bristol Scout! It will be interesting to share experience as to how the NZ Scout performs with the radial engine etc. Can't wait to see (has it a number/registration) the flight!
We are desperate to bring 1264 over to NZ to say thank you - TVAL and Gene were just so supportive during our search for a le Rhone engine, how to maintain a 1917 engine and providing advice about covering her. Truly an amazing outfit.

Doesn't the recently imported scout have an 80hp le Rhone? That would make it a rotary, not a radial.

Certainly intrigued to learn which version of the Bristol Scout the NZ one will be and is it based on a certain aircraft flying in WWI. Looking at the photographs at www.facebook.com/150073775005366/photos/pcb.2199953706684019/2199953026684087/?type=3&theaterIt is very different to our own 'C' type built in 1914. The NZ Scout has type 'D' ailerons, it also has a different shape to the lower fuselage, the engine cowling has a large bulge on the side which was used for cooling purposes in later versions of the scout with the Gnome mono engine. The fabric colour is so unusual and the markings also - although RFC roundels it has a union flag on the side, which the 'D' types didn't have, so is it a 'C' type like ours. If we could fund another build it would be Lanoe Hawkers Bristol Scout 1611 type C. So many questions! Wish we were there to talk to the owners and share information! Does anyone have contact details? Sorry to sound such a geek but we live and breath Bristol Scouts here - as 'Bristol Scout Builders' we are compiling a log of all the 370 produced, including the variations as it developed!

Please do get in touch if we can help in anyway, we can offer advice etc from our experience in Bristol Scout: Rebuilding Grandad's Aircraft 1264. The original Bristol Scout 5554 was the first type D scout to be produced and was originally powered by a 110 Clerget engine and had the largest size of rudder fitted and increased stagger due to the additional weight of the Clerget engine. Please can we come over and play!

The P-39 has now been stated as static only (which does increase my chances of catching a test flight at some stage this summer), and Mossie PZ474 fully painted and complete on static, possible taxy.

It turns out I'm working next Sunday and as I've only been there for a couple of months I don't want to risk asking to switch shifts, even if I could afford to get up there.
I'm very excited to see everyone's photos and video of the event! I hope the weather is good enough for the Mossie and P-39 to be outside.

The Scout went flying this afternoon - took off from the grass beside the taxiway and did a couple of (very slow!) laps around the airfield and then landed on the grass runway, there was a decent 15kt wind blowing too but it seemed to cope with it well enough. Great to hear a rotary engine in the skies at Ardmore too.
