Yes they have two seaters and I agree looks like a real shot. I think its a real shot, though flown by someone else with his eyes and face CGIed in Maybe, I thought that he might've been in the back seat of an 18-F

I watched a couple of reaction videos by former and current naval aviators, and they said when you can see Tom Cruise's face he's in the back of a F/A-18F so it is all real. They had the consensus that the stunt flying must have been done by a qualified Blue Angel because none of them had flown that low operationally (probably because they'd be court martialed).
There are some nice touches like his 1980's era Kawasaki Ninja GPZ900 under the dust cover although it morphs into a brand new H2R when he's riding alongside the Hornet taking off.

I was reading that Tom wouldn’t do it if it was CGI, only if with real A/C and the Mustang is his own! In an interview most of the in cockpit footage is using a 2 seater

I went to the Reno Air Races in Sept this year... and had a beer with the civilian instructor that's getting all the cast g-limits up in his Extra-300L. There will be no faking the facial expressions with G in this movie! Very very cool! He commented that the cast feedback so far was that the sustained g in the Extra300 felt greater than the jet.
So looking forward to this... even if it is a 'Tom Cruise movie' lol

The G must be real for sure, we use the same mask/helmet at work and if we fitted one so it slid down like this under G we'd rightfully have our butt kicked, the top of the mask should be up by the bridge of the nose, this is going to hurt after a short while. Capture by Leslie Stockley, on Flickr

From what we have seen so far the flying scenes look awesome. Here's a few over the years the corny has almost become cool.
Stinger: "Maverick, you just did an incredibly brave thing. (Pause) What you should have done was land your plane! You don't own that plane! The taxpayers do! Son, your ego is writing cheques your body can't cash!"
Iceman: "You can be my wingman any time." Maverick: "Bull----! You can be mine."
Maverick, spotting Charlie for the first time: "She's lost that loving feeling."
Charlie: "Listen, can I ask you a personal question?" Maverick: "That depends." Charlie: "Are you a good pilot?" Maverick: "I can hold my own." Charlie: "Great, then I won't have to worry about you making your living as a singer."
Maverick, after Charlie walks away: "I'm going to need a beer to put these flames out. Yo! Great Mav, real slick."
Goose: "No. No, Mav, this is not a good idea." Maverick: "Sorry, Goose, but it's time to buzz the tower."
Jester: "That was some of the best flying I've seen to date — right up to the part where you got killed."
Maverick, walking into a bar: "This is what I call a target-rich environment."
Maverick: "It's classified. I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you."

The "Cinejet" in the behind-the-scenes was being tested at Reno in Sept. A camera system developed by Shotover, they were testing their "K1" it on the front of the L39. They were going for certification for 350Kts but hoped to go faster. An awesome piece of kit... I admit to drooling lol.
I can't wait for this.........
