I have seen it twice now and while it was entertaining enough it really is pure Hollywood. Not too much like the real thing.

Some great callbacks to the original movie. There is a shot during the beach scene where Maverick leans forward and pushes his sunglasses back onto the ridge of his nose that is a direct copy of a similar shot in Topgun. That was one of the less obvious nods to the original but I remember thinking at the time I'd seen it before.
