It's a fantastic piece, I thoroughly enjoyed it! A great mix of history, restoration and pilot's notes.
I'm still clueless about the Aussie link too.

So is a P47 but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. P.S. I like the Buchon - just don't call it a Bf109

I like the Buchon - just don't call it a Bf109 I do too, vultee43, but dunno why you can't call it a Bf 109, especially these ones, they have spent more of their lives impersonating Bf 109s than they ever did as Hispano Buchons. Also, Their quirky characteristics couldn't come from anything except a Bf 109, the awkwardly splayed undercarriage; DSC_7809 The leading edge slats; DSC_4002 The heavily framed, side folding canopy; DSC_5217 Variable incidence elevators; DSC_4860 And their operation by a wheel on the left hand side of the cockpit next to the flap retracting wheel, which, operated simultaneously is supposed to reduce ballooning when the flaps are lowered; DSC_7833 ...

Guess I'm just being a purist. I think it deserves its own identity 😉.

A few more from the stash in an attempt to turn around the doubters! vintageaviationecho.com/richard-grace-buchons/Re the Australian connection see below quote from paragraph 12 from the above article. “In late 2014 the eight remaining Buchon’s and Spitfire MH415 were put on there market by Platinum Fighter Sales and then acquired by Boschung Global. Warbird Investments, an Australian consortium, subsequently bought two of them (Red 11 and Yellow 7) and asked Richard Grace to fly out to Big Spring to survey the aircraft.” Did a bit of sleuthing and all I can find is company details? au.companiesdb.net/companies/warbird-investments-pty-limited/Wonder if Pete Anderson may be able to shed some light, be nice if the Oz Warbird Investments crew bring their investments down under one day?

Guess I'm just being a purist. I think it deserves its own identity 😉. It didn't help Young Zac that in the Warbirds Over Wanaka 1992 videos G-BOML was referred to as an Me109J. But I agree: 109s is 109s and Buchons is Buchons! And I love Buchons!!

Guess I'm just being a purist. I think it deserves its own identity 😉. You're right, vultee43, it definitely does and I'm certainly not stating you are wrong, but it definitely is a Bf 109 in all but engine and nose cowl. There are a few small structural modifications here and there, but on the whole, the Buchon is a re-engined Bf 109G. Yes, I do think it's ugly, but I think it is kewl and has a special kind of charisma.

I guess it stems from the Battle of Britain movie and the fact that so much of the type's characteristics comes from the Bf 109 as I pointed out earlier. One thing that is readily apparent is that of the surviving Buchons around the world, there are more that are converted into or dressed to look like Bf 109s than there are examples configured as Buchons as the Spanish intended. I do like the blue colour scheme the Ejercito put on theirs.

Great photos from Legends 2018. Mine are much the same. This is still one of my faves of my own pics. I took it at Wanaka in 2016. DSC_5492

Planecrazy, I had not seen this thread before so have done some prelim work. I like the Buchon and would love to see one back with its HS powerplant and Spanish markings. Ironically, Santa brought me "Showdown in the Western Sahara" Vol 1 Air Warfare over the last African Colony, 1945 - 1975" History of Moroccan air ops. (I have a weird eclectic taste in things aviation) and featured are both the Buchon and Casa C.2111. My immediate searching ref Warbird Investments. Apart from what is mentioned here I have found that they are not just importing or owners of warbirds but also exporting. A DH built PC-9 was exported by Warbird Investments from Yarraville, Melbourne to Port of Oakland (Voyage 113N of Synergy) arriving 23 June 2021 and the aircraft was imported to the US of A by "Warbird Investments, 41690 Valley View Ct, Elizabeth, Colorado. 80170". More reveals that 41690 Valley View Ct is a private residence located just outside Elizabeth which itself is south east from Denver. A further check shows the property has two aircraft registered to "John F lii Davis" at this address, a CC & F Harvard Mk.IV N13595 (Cert Issue date 30 June 2015) and a Pilatus PC-7 N902AK (Cert Issue date 19 April 2012). His name is actually John F (Thinking Fulton) Davis III and he is a registered voter with the Colorado Republican Party. As an aside there are 6 airfields/landing grounds and 1 heliport near Elizabeth so lots of opportunity to go flying from there. Lots more info available in the public record but this is not relevant to Warbird Investments

I do like the blue colour scheme the Ejercito put on theirs. Unfortunately for Spanish-schemed Buchons fans it seems that owners - and I imagine airshow organisers - place greater value on a "German" aircraft than the original. Personally the silver with blue undersides is my favourite and I hope an airworthy machine receives that scheme one day. I like the Buchon and would love to see one back with its HS powerplant and Spanish markings. The Hispano-Suiza powered aircraft is the HA-1109-K1L Tripala, as opposed to the more familiar Merlin-powered HA-1112-M1L which is named Buchon because it resembles a pigeon with a particularly big chest! But an 1109 would be amazing to see and hear. Speaking of which:
