Nice box arrived at Wigram when I was there this morning..... I believe it's on loan for a year or so. Ah so it's going to be used by the RNZAF team to famiiarise & take patterns one assumes. I'd have thought it'd be easier to send the museum team up north but I guess this way they won't have to rush it & can pore over it in fine detail... wonder if there's any IT systems that can do a 3D imaging & feed that into a CAD system to aid design, or am I getting ahead of myself? It'll certainly be some years before we see the Vildebeest complete but exciting times!

when we were doing the initial collecting of Vincent/Vildie parts from Marton in the mid 60's we retrieved some main spars that were being used as aerial supports for "ham" radio operators. They were uncut, full length items.

The Pegasus gives it a rather pugnacious look but for elegance have a look at the Spanish machines on wheels or floats !

Shorty, if I remember correctly those spars were in the grass besides the hangar by the officers mess at Ohakea for some time?

I know I have very strange taste but I have always thought I would very much enjoy a flight in a Vildebeest or a Vincent.

And a Baffin also under rebuild. All four being the last sole survivors of their type to ever likely be rebuilt.

Now, wouldn't that fab four be a World treat? What a draw-card!

Don Subritzky is restoring it. Part of it was saved by Charles Darby and part by John Smith, now Don has all the remans together and making good progress in rebuilding it.

Now, wouldn't that fab four be a World treat? What a draw-card! How about the Famous Five. Nobody has made a comment about the Subritzky collection of Hawker Hinds which some forum members would have seen when we had a forum meet at Dons some years ago. So now there are five aircraft of the RNZAF from the 1930's early 1040's. Steve has supplied me with the two attached photos of one of the Hinds and also of the Baffin. Enjoy

We are so incredibly fortunate and owe so much to these folks for recovering and preserving these precious machines. I barely had any idea what a Baffin was until I stumbled upon it at Don’s place! I know I have very strange taste but I have always thought I would very much enjoy a flight in a Vildebeest or a Vincent. You’re in good company Ando - I daresary there are several WONZers (myself included) who would dearly love to go up in one. In the meantime I’m very excited at the prospect of driving to Wigram to see the big Vickers pair together in person - a first for how many years?

And for fun, think about the size of the thing- given those ladders being used for support (though admittedly there's no weight on the legs and the wheels aren't touching the ground)
