Crikey, what was that crash? It looks very nasty. Not the Meteor obviously.
Is that Vampire firing a rocket at an airshow?

Sorry, I meant 'doctored' by the RNZAF, not Barry or yourself. As Dave said, it is probably just a very posed shot.

Fantastic stuff! That's one thing I had sort of hoped to see in Barrie's films was the Venom aerobatic team at Singapore and the Mk 9 Vampire teams in Cyprus, but unfortunately no. Oh well.
In the team above I recognise the names (Nelson Bright, Mayne Hawkins, Barrie Ried) but who was F/O Eden?

Geez, that Flying Training School patch must have a few years behind it, when was it renamed Pilot Training Squadron?

Re post 306, who was F/O Eden? D.R.A. Eden, (David Russell Auckland Eden). Retired as AirNZ's Flight Operations Manager, unable as yet to confirm date. Prior obviously a long time Captain with Air New Zealand, all as an international pilot. Unfortunately deceased 5 September 2008 aged 76. (ex NZ Herald)

Thanks Avenger.
I note that Photobucket seems to have removed the photo of the explosion at the airshow, they must have thought it was a crash too. Did someone complain to them perhaps?

Yeah that was weird. It was the Nicosia paper clipping. They haven't disallowed any of the other clippings so I assume it was the file name which violated something, although the name was pretty innocuous as far as I know - BofB2 - for Battle of Britain. Anyway replaced it with a new one with a different file name.

I was just having a flick through Barrie's copy of 'The Sport of Kings'. This photo appears on page 376 with the following caption: Hastings of 42 Sqn flown by Tom Danaher Whenuapai 1957.

Great photos again in that selection. I wonder what the 208 Charge was about, it looks like they may have just nicked that US flag.

Ref the Hastings shot. I was talking to a retired Hasting Flight Engineer the other day and he said that he recalls doing a single engined flypast at an airshow with three feathered. Apparently Air Dept advised the Squadron it was not to happen again!.
