Doors internally are right for an NZ -2G, like Phil said, can't see the FLIR turret though.

If you can find and contact some of the PJI's from then, their logbooks might show tail numbers, pretty sure in my jump logbook I recorded tail numbers of the Hercs and Andovers I jumped from.

The 727 did fit, no tailplane removal required.

In the pics of the Yak where you can see the bottom, it looks to me like the outboard end of the flap is down a little, sucking down under the air pressure at high speed?

At least 95% of the comments on that article say the same thing, live next to an air force base and then complain about noise, go away. Good to see.

One of the list members is pretty sure he has a copy of the manual, but he's not at home at the moment. Might be a week or two before he is.

I've asked on a flying clothing nerd email list I'm on to see if anyone has a manual for it, if there is one about these guys will have it. I'll let you know how I get on.

Sequence of the Miss Velma landing here forums.airshows.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=78045You can see he was trying to retract the gear, canopy was on till touchdown so maybe jettisoned on the ground for a quick escape. Either way, pilot and anyone on the ground unhurt and aircraft rebuildable, good result.

Te Kaha was already in the area on deployment, she joined the carrier group to fill the gap after the collision between the US ship and a cargo ship for a short time till the US could get a replacement ship into place.

I know this is kind of nitpicky, but shouldn't the tail have NAVY on it instead of RNZN? At the time its was being touted as a Wasp replacement and the Wasp had RNZN on the tailboom.

Yes, the Skyhawks chutes had a ballistic spreader fitted. Basically a hand grenade with ejecting weighted slugs that threw the periphery of the chute out to inflate it instantly.
