Thanks for the comments - but any rebuild needs the help of lots of people ..and in this case, two of the best are Pioneer at Ardmore and specifically Will Lowen ... and CAMS at Omaka and Tony Wytenburg. www.pioneeraero.co.nz/www.cams.net.nz/Rgds Hvd1041

Always liked the SE5a - both the scaled ones, and more recently the full sized ones... I guess they all are - to greater or lesser extent - 'homebuilts' but luckily both the original RAE drawings and Jim Kiger's (Replicraft) drawings are pretty good if you want to build one - which I have been doing slowly over a number of years. Luckily there are some pretty helpful people who have done lots to advance the project along the way. Started out with some original woodwork, a Hisso, and the above drawings - a few photos below of the current state of progress. It will be finished on 'Wednesday' Rgds Hvd1041

Yes indeed - some were built with wooden rear fuselages - as it was thought that perhaps ally might become a shortage ...but it never did - so back to ally rears ... and I think many of the RNZAF IIAs were delivered with wooden rears. I gather no difference in performance and they were changed out post war ...never actually seen one however. Cheers Hvd1041

Interesting post - actually all Harvard ones are Yes - I'm sure David is correct - here's the page out of the -3 Manual ... although I'm pretty sure the glareshield was green rather than black, and in the case of my Harvard, NZ1041 - had a red cowl as part of its No 4(F) OTU marks. Love your work Juanita. Cheers Hvd1041

Yes - bad to see this lovely Ryan damaged, but the pilot got out ok - and I'm sure the aircraft will be rebuilt. The armed Ryans actually had a Lewis Gun on the top of the wing - US Remington built 30-06s - in a neat little fairing.

Here is a photo of one of the P-40Es up in the Islands...it's NZ3094 which was Col Pays original machine....obviously a staged photo but very cool all the same. adf Serials says : NZ3094 P-40E-1 19620 41-25109 ET433 Taken over from the 68th PG, USAAF by No.15 Squadron at Fuamotu, Tonga on 27 October 1942. Sold to J. Larsen from Rukuhia on 02 March 1948. One of the last 4 Kittyhawks scheduled to be melted down, this aircraft was still extant at Rukuhia in March 1967. Remains to John Chambers and Mike Subritzky. Sold to C. Pay, Scone, New South Wales in 1994 and since restored First post restoration flight at Scone Airport, Australia on 06 December 2005.

Few photos of some Allison engine running last day or so ... engine is a -99 Allison - test dyno uses a J79 (F-4 Phantom) compressor as the variable load - very cool. Rgds Hvd1041

Yes - she stunning for sure - and a real credit to Paul Redlich and his team at Tri-State Warbird Museum in Batavia, Ohio....great stuff Paul. Here is the man himself using the wing for a bit of shade. ...and a few photos early on in its initial rebuild in Auckland - back in 1999.
And more recently, during it's current rebuild in Ohio PS - I think the connection with GB Fisken was probably taken from this photo - but of course us anoraks know that is the SU number, and it's actually NZ3072 in the photo. NZ3119 spent its time on No 2(F) OTU as far as I can gather.

Sorry to hear Ted Patterson has passed away. Family friend and grew up with the Patterson kids at the Woodbourne married patch. Found this photo from 1972 - that's Ted second row far right ( as you look at it ). WO with Pilots Wings. Lovely guy.

Indeed - nicest late model P-40 I've seen The radio, cockpit, and armament fits are very very original. Hope the Judges at Oshkosh see it the same. Cheers

Great photos - and thanks The P-40E is interesting ... ex RCAF machine and a varied history if this link is correct www.warbirdregistry.org/p40registry/p40-ak979.htmlFlying Tigers paint schemes seem a ( too ) popular US scheme, but of course they originally flew P-40Bs not P-40Es, and by the time later model P-40s came on strength, they had been been disbanded ( July 42) & incorporated in the USAAC 14th Fighter Group.....but hey, it's close. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_Tigers#Curtiss_P-40Love the photos.
