Do you reckon we should run a book on how quickly the greenies make it to his house and how many he attracts? It'd be like bees around a honey pot

Anyone driven one of these? Am heading down to test drive a new one tomorrow, had V8s for years but time for a bit of a change with some off road options.

I'd check but I think Subarus are still popular with car thieves. Wanda had her one stolen a whiles back. Nice looking car though.

It would only be popular with car thieves if it was lowered, sporting a scoop on the bonnet and a big wing on the back plus the letters WRX appearing somewhere. I think Gavin would be safe with it in Blenheim.

Yeah should be okay in Blenheim. We are after something with more room etc and drove one of those Subaru models today and not to bad. Then I spotted the car below. Boy the VF Commodore is a huge step up from past models, a lot has changed and so much more refined. The demo was out so hopefully I have some time next weekend to try one out.

The VF is a keeper, that's for sure! I drove a friends around for a while and liked it lots!! Not enough, however, to make me want to move from my FG Falcon!!

Funny thing is we have an FG Falcon, well a 335 GT but it is time for a change to something a bit more practical that works better for us with more space and better on gas etc. Wish Ford did a station wagon version of the FG.

A per my earlier post the VF range is a good step up for Holden, not just features-wise but also with the lowered price. Gavin - test drive a Calais V if you get a chance, the 6 boasts 210kw but bloody lean on a trip. I drove in a friends wagon last week around Melbourne and its a beaut if you need that extra space. I bought the sedan and have had other nice Fairmonts and SS Commodores in the past, the new Calais V wipes the floor with all of them

Wish Ford did a station wagon version of the FG. Amen. I hung onto our old AU wagon for just that reason.

They had one there, looked fantastic. Owned Holdens up until 2001, then Fords from then until now, and now changing again by the looks of it.

Gavin - if you want a 4Wd for mainly road use I would seriously look at the Mazda CX-5 or if you want something larger the Ford Territory TDCI (diesel)..wagons either the VF Commodore as above or the new Mazda 6
Thanks for that, will have a look at a Mazda 6 and have seen a CX-5. The VF us winning at the moment. :-)
Sorry have quoted against your post, need to get used to this moderator thing.

Having picked one up about six months ago I've had the thief magnet thing thrown at me a few times, but frankly I'm a little dubious. It is a stat true, but I wonder if the stat is adjusted to reflect the huge number of Subarus out there in NZ. It's one of the most popular brands in the country, so I wonder if the oft quoted fact is simply reflecting that there are a lot of Subarus in the country to get stolen.

When it came time to replace our 4 wheels end of last year - the cheaper the better - we got inviegled into an i30 turbo diesel wagon - run out of the old model with the current model uprated engine & 6 speed box. Only 2 of us so plenty roomy enough - not a ball of fire but quicker than the 2litre petrol (it's a 1600) and, cruising at 130 on the open road with 30% of our driving in built up areas as we do our 900km/week commute, still gives us 5.5l/100km (50mpg) all for $20,000 on road! It's comfortable and if we want any jollies, the missus and me have our motorbikes....

My car is sitting still at the moment, with the boat docked in Brisbane unloading some there. Have to check if the road that goes up further around Lyttleton where that lookout is, is open so I can see it getting unloaded next saturday
