Dave, my son reckons it is a Swan Plant Seed Bug. Arocatus rusticus. Originally Australian, but now common in New Zealand. He's quite keen on bugs and looked it up in his 'Which New Zealand Insect' book. You blokes must of swapped him for Russell Crowe

Might be a new species Dave, might be called the Dave bug if no one has ever seen it before. The back legs aren't long enough to be a Locust.

Merry Christmas everyone. Raining and cold here in Sydney with a chance of thunderstorms later on, got my camera ready to go in case it does.

Stuff giving it a rest, it was a hugely significant global event in world history and worth of a discussion thread on the forum It all happened before I was born, the closest I've come to JFK is seeing his final resting place at Arlington cemetery, where an eternal flame burns. Jacqui is buried next to him. if you ever have the chance to go to DC I strongly suggest taking some time out to visit this place, the sheer number of white crosses is thought-provoking and of course many famous servicemen, astronauts and Presidents are buried there. He was buried there because one week earlier he commented on how nice the view was from the Cemetery while visiting it, hows that ay, a week later he would be buried there.

I learned today from a BBC documentary on the Gettysburg Address that Lincoln had a high pitched, whiney voice in real life. ALL the films and TV portrayals I have seen have him with a deep voice. Like most things in political history, rose tinted glasses, I guess. Next you will try to tell me he wasn't a Vampire slayer either

All the way with LBJ -Harold Holt, Australian Prime minister. His death is also very suspicious.

Dave, how well known is this story? I know it says on your site that it's not well known but has this story ever reached the USA that you know of? You could be on to something here.I always thought it was cut in two but Watching the doco they found what looked to be like the whole PT boat, it was under the sand though. All other reports say it was cut in two.

Did you know that RNZAF members saved the front half of the PT-109, and built a back into the halved boat creating a new boat which they used for recreation. When time came to leave the island they scuttled it. What, where, when?? Please tell me more Dave. Didn't the boat go down in one piece though?

having just spent three weeks in the US Plotting the assassination? I used to be obsessed with the JFK assassination, now I look more into what he was like as a leader rather than how he was killed. A lot of people know him as the President who was assassinated rather than a great leader. My parents were telling how scared they were at school when the whole missile crisis was going on, Mum was thirteen at the time and said she used to sit in class waiting for the bomb to drop on Auckland. One of the best documentaries I have seen was ''The Search for Kennedy's PT109'' Didn't know until I watched it that an Aussie and a few Natives saved his life in WWII.

I like the P-40 from the movie ''1941'' and ''Peral Harbor'' the olive colour with the sharks teeth, I think they also have the early star. The RNZAF with the white tail and stripes is pretty cool also. Here is one you might like-

The Banskias need fire to open and spread their seeds, I think Pine cones do the same.

Really? I live near Sydenham and close to the city, I could smell it. I can't remember which way it came from but it might of moved north to south/south west slowly. I remember the outline of it, south and south west was clear blue sky and north was dark and smokey, maybe that's why? The photos show exactly what it was like, only the quality isn't as good as the naked eye.

I have a friend who is also from Hill Top, he was freaking out when he heard Hill Top might be on alert. Have you been to Fountaindale Grand Manor? Haven't been there for many years. It was then called Ranelagh House. CC Yea that's it. My Aunty owns it, she is trying to sell it as it is too much work for her too handle.
