I would like to see the Skyhawks offered to museums . I do not think they have much in the way of political significance anymore .

I think 35 , 40 and 207 Sqns used the Gordon in the UK over that period . 35 Sqn from August 1936 till late 1937 had Gordons in the UK before they converted to Wellesleys . The relevant date for 40 Sqn would be November 1935 when they converted to Hinds . 35 and 207 Sqns were at Worthy Down near Winchester , at this time and 40 might have been at Abingdon .

A man called Innes Jones , who later became Black Rod of Parliament , was seriously wounded by a piece of shrapnel coming up through his seat early in the war in Europe . He was a navigator in a Blenhiem . After his recovery one of his jobs involved flying new Mitchells across the North Atlantic . He told me that these aircraft were amongst the first vehicles to use a form of an Anti Skid Braking system . Another comment I recall was that at Gandor American servicemen packed the aircraft dangerously heavy with parcels from home for US servicemen in the UK .

I also was under the impression that once the tail rotor was gone a crash was the only outcome , so I asked a friend who had been involved in the early days of the helicopters down there. She said yes it can be done and asked who the pilot was and when I said it was Hanibal , she simply said that he could walk on water .

I was under the impression this aircraft was all but a new build , with the additon of a data plate from a genuine firewall . I have no problem with this as to me it is all Spitfire and I will be able to see it in its element , where it belongs . However it could be argued , to get around these current issues , that this is in no way a real warplane .

I have a feeling not much has change really ,I think the same things will drive our young people as they have done in the past . But I also believe we tend to look back with rose coloured glasses . I worked for an old guy who had been in the Airforce in the Pacific and he told me that they had just been through the Depression and here was a chance to travel and it was all a big adventure and thats how it started from his point of view . He also told me he knew one of our war heros who left for the war not too far ahead of the local Police who had been interested in having a word with him about some high speed car chases. Another guy I talked to was recovered from Dunkirk and was horrified to discover back in England at that time , well after the start of the war , that the population was still not fully behind the war . He told me that business people , and property owners were still wanting to come to some sort of aggreement . The working classes were more inclind to fight . I had believed that by that time The British were committed but it appears that that was not quite so clear cut even by the time of Dunkirk .

Ther may be a line that has to be reached before the SAS can be openly used and as yet that has not been met . I do not rhink the punch ups in Mount Eden have anything to do with recent events , more likely pay back for earlier history between this individual and the gangs . Interestingly and largely unreported but seemingly related the premises of Case Borham in Auckland got raided recently too .

I have not seen the list but it has been reported that they planned to remove a number of prominent people and had a list . I have been told that when it all comes out in court it will shock the average New Zealander . As I understand it , the SAS cannot be used inside New Zealand , but I believe ExSAS were involved in training at the camps . The raids here were done without the knowledge of local police , I think they were under the impression that a special unit was coming into the area to do another completely different job . There have been stories coming in for quite a while now about hunters being confronted with automatic weapons and either being told they can no longer go into these areas or being told they have to pay for the right to hunt there .

Locally the little bits that are keaking out would seem to suggest that the Police had infiltrated this lot quite early in the act . Apparently the Police do have the video surveilance evidence they have intimated at . There was a hit list and it did include prominent Maori as well as Pakeha . Those arrested and on the edge of this are a mixed bunch , but those arrested are in serious trouble having really moved over that mark between idle threats and training for acts of violence . I think the average punter will be shocked when the full extent of the tapes is revealed , and I think these people currently held are amazed that there conversations have been recorded and revealed. One of their spokesmen is an undischarged Aussie bankrupt , who in my opinion is just a conartist.

Somewhere on the forum , the other day , there was a thread started , I think by Dave . It was about a New Zealander who joined the RAF pre war and feature a picture of him standing beside a large single engined RAF aircraft . Dave was thinking it was a Ripon or Baffin but someone pointed out it was a Fairey Gordon . I have used the seach facility but cannot find this thread .Can anyone help locate it please ?

The Media use the term " Drunk " , the rule , if I read it correctly was none within 12 hours of flight . Does this mean someone who drinks one Budwieser is drunk 12hours later? From memory the time between the first test satelites and Gagarin was relatively short .
