Don't think so from memory. he was at hobby at the paintshop there, then he was working for the council I think, as he used to mention being on a quad or something spraying weeds on the side of the roads. lost track after I left in 2002.

Yup, and 8 tonnes of extra fuel means 8 tonnes of freight they cannot carry, plus I'd dare say that they would cause a slight bit of drag either slowing them down a tad or increasing power to keep speed the same .

Thinking they are having a good hard look at what is going to happen, which stated in the media reports that more and more pacific nations are going to be hit with climate change, weather disasters etc so we are going to need to respond more. Depending on what they are thinking, they might just look at swapping the H's for J's in the very near future, and look at the A400 for strategic next decade. Once NZDF confident supply chain established and airlifters are FOC (2028) then RNZAF can pitch to exercise option order in 2030 - hopefully for a next gen version. [/div] [/quote] new generation version ? 4 turbofans

Santa ain't coming with the goodies this year. I am sure they are waiting on the capability report which probably has changed in recent times with the climate change writings in the media recently. Only thing is, if no more orders for the A400 come, there will be a time for Airbus to say, hey, we have to stop here, last orders at this date, maybe some white tails and that's it.
We could have had 2-3 C17 with almost FOC by now if they hadn't mucked around.

A one for one is the bare minimum for concurrent tasking for tactical lift needs, just because they are new dose not mean the can go down unserviceable, if it was me I’d begoing 8 A400m for both strategic/tactical lifter all in one NZ does not have economy of scale and leasing a 737BBJ thru ANZ for VIP 8 A400's, yeah right dreams are free but not the ADF budget

A400 for rnzaf highly unlikely,C130j only real choice, bring on the naysayers. Mate, I’ll give you 5-1 for 2 A400’ and a 5-8 J Models to enter RNZAF service? Also I wouldn’t be surprised if they bolt on an additional A400 or a couple more down the track once they see what the A400 can do in a Strategic Airlift role. As you can’t fit a NH-90 in a C130 and you should see when they try and squeeze a Blackhawk into one. 5 - 8 J model herks. If ya can't make a decent comment, don't bother making one

I believe they are procured by the contractor.Contracted to maintain the seats. So a job for the contractor, not the aiforce. negative, parts are FMS procurement so Air Force to look after.

I think they are reaching their life, just RNZAF didn't order in time to get them before some expired, and have to wait for more to be manufactured.

without seeing more images showing what land if any is close by on the l/h side, the landing short seems by quite a bit

Don't think the black nose will go too soon, the nose cone is coated with a layer of graphite based compound, this prevents static build up, and limits RF reflection, allowing optimum performance of the RADAR. So it's actually there for a reason, although civilian aircraft can use modern non metallic based paint, their weather radar is able to be used well enough, and still look fancy. isc it was just that I have seen quite a few images where whole radome is grey. have stripped and repainted a few herk radomes before and a long winded process.

And by the time we get ours, they will be in a more modern stance via some upgrade increments.
Just hope they get rid of that stupid looking black nose of the radome.

Just wait until we end up following Australia and buying Boxer - the damn thing can barely fit in a A400 at theatre entry standard. Best we get them C17's then.
