I'd say we will stay with the same MX20 turret they are fitting, as in it being able to be moved up and down from in the camera bay. When they started installing the first versions on the P3C, it was found to get stuck in the up or down position, and that's why NZ went for the permanent down position, which lead to stiffening the NLG doors and fitting a rough surface over the turret to disrupt the airflow.

I dare say the FAMC and FASC have been talking to each other throughout the past year or 2 so some thought has been discussed on what choices they might have and what the tenderers have offered. No doubt Airbus have been up with the play and also know that the contract with the new KA350's ends in 2025. Would they be offering the A400 but also look at offering the C235 for that contract after 2025, or would that be too big for new pilots on twin engine conversion.

The P8 also has a special hydrocarbon sniffer that will detect any gas vapours coming from a submarine.

The P-8 deal won't happen unfortunately. The Green Party will make sure of that. I greatly respect Ron Mark, and his efforts, but I'm not holding my breath. They couldn't even afford a military spec Littoral Vessel for the Navy. A huge amount of wishful thinking on Ron Mark"s behalf I think. The members are waiting to see images of "hat eating"

The deal is Dave, If the P8 purchase was done, then 5 Sqn would move to Ohakea. hangar already there for them, runway ok for length. My option is when Auckland International complete their second runway, they base 6 and 40 sqn there.

So the next question is going to be, the Sqn moving to Ohakea. They will be keen to take on operating a new aircraft etc, but the main thing, will be their wives who might have pretty high paying jobs in and around Auckland, and the kids who are in good schools etc. Will we see quite a few aircrew maybe coming home in the weekends to Auckland and living in the mess during the week.

Be no announcement on specific replacement types but just what their future plans are. Just wonder if they will give an approx date on when c130 replacement will be announced. P3K2 replacement announced on Monday to which we all know what that will be.

So on a nice day, they could with just crew, be able to stretch a flight out to 15 hours. Any idea on what has been the longest flight ?

The mid year decision is only the offer that had been presented though isn't it? It's not the last chance to get the order in but if they don't take up the offer you would imagine they will be looking at Japan. I imagine that there could be a juicy price and shorter wait time on the Japanese equipment as well which could well swing the current government more than it would have the previous. pretty sure ron marks said they had an extension for purchase decision which from that article in nz herald runs out mid year, which I take to be june. not sure 1st or 30th. IOC for P3 replacement wasn't till 2025 anyway. would think if we ended up going for P1, then Kawasaki would look quite favourably at giving us some slots that were intended for JSDF C2 production is quite slow at present with I think only about 3 flying and another 3 on order but follow on orders will possibly reach 60

mid year so thinking cabinet has to make a decision this or next week on yes or no. 90% says yes it will be P8 due to 5 Eyes etc and there has been some official USA aircraft in wlg recently. So they would have been pressing for made in usa. but yes I like p1 and c2 combo myself too. not sure if c2 would be a direct c130 replacement or more b757 for strategic but also for internal larger lifting. would be interesting to see if a nh90 would fit into one.
