Thank you for the photos, believe it or not, the remains of ZK-TZL spent some time in my front paddock. I have some photos of it but i'm having some trouble posting photos from my tablet.......will keep trying.

Hi there, Just wondering if anyone had done a thread on the history of the Banderante in NewZealand? I had a bit of a search through the site, but may have missed something. I have a friend who had family who were freinds with people back in Brazil back at the time when the first Banderante Aircraft were brought to NZ, she is trying to trace what happend to those early bandits in NZ. I think ZK-ERU may have been one of the first, and it may still reside near Cambridge in a paddock, Any info or photos would be greatfully appreciated

The search for info on Peter Povey turned out to be a real goose chase, but i did manage to find some remaining family and as it turns out Peter worked at the Esk forest camp near Te pohue planting trees for the forest service for a few years in the mid 1960s. so this at least puts him in the right area and the right time frame, Peter was said to be a bit of a driffter type, a loner, and he did not have much contact at all with his own family and although they can't remember him talking of a plane wreck, they do remember that he used to hunt ;D......so now i am off to search for any of his old work mates to see if i can find any way of linking Peter to the rumour of the hunter who may have found a wreck in the 1960s.......I feel another Goose chase coming up.

Hello Just a bit of an update, we finally managed to put a name to the chap standing by the wing tip of ZK-AIX in the photo. It was not Mort Vanderpump after all but a chap named Don Leeves, Don was a duty pilot at Bridge Pa and often used to ride a bicycle to the airfield as traveling by car once proved fatal when his friend Bill Esam was killed in an accident, Don was lucky to escape alive. Don had a brother, Bryan and wife named Ruth, Don was a close friend of Johnny Tacon and was said to be very upset when John went missing. Don helped out with the search for John and ZK-AJV he flew as an observer with Pete Van Asch in a Beechcraft and also searched in the clubs Tiger moths along with Bill Esam. Don passed away a number of years ago but his family are thrilled to have a copy of this photo of him as they had no idea of its existance...... ;D ;D ;D

From what i can work out, reading through all the news articles, the crash site was on the west side of that peak with a saddle on the east side of it toward the western end of that range on the northern side of the Humboldt valley, marked as .1334 on kiwithrottlejockey's map.....Great that the mystery has come to an end.

Nice one Kiwi, ;D ;D ;D I see the signal lights on the map and switching from the control tower, so did that mean that Aircraft had right of way to a train? Still that is an argument i would not want to push, could be a bit expensive.... ;D Hey while on the subject of rail, do you think they will save that line from Napier to Gizzy? Maybe even just for tourists to putt up and down on little tuk tuk type things on the rails, or is it had it, beyond repair???

Remember that chap Owen Evans.....I think he held a record for the fastest speed on a public road. Something like 325 kph in his Lighting Direct Porshe race car up on Goudies road near Reporoa in the 1990s. Goudies road had a strait about 6 k's long, I think he crashed on the second or third go at it...... Quite a bad crash to from memory...

Nice one flyernzl.... ;D Great bit of history, and i love the old photos......Such a shame that none were saved in flying condition in New Zealand. I would say today tourists would be happy to pay top dollar for a spin around the Auckland water front in a Sunderland..........
