TS, as soon as I logged on there was a Labour Party ad at the bottom of the page!

I had just crawled into bed after night shift when I was woken up by all my Windows rattling and the house shaking, worth it to get out of bed to see them scream over the roof.

Not sure if these have been posted before (apologies if they have) but I found a couple of Australian War Memorial films on Youtube featuring RNZAF Corsairs. No sound though I'm afraid.
This one also features some P-40's;

And it was Michael Cain's voice over the R/T, I thought I was imagining it. To bad he didn't re-use "How much longer Ops? the engine's overheating and so am I, we either stand down or blow up, which do you want?"

Saw it last night and thought it was great, seeing actual ship's sink rather than something computer generated was a welcome change. Of course the dog fighting scenes were the best but made me think how much ammo Tom Hardy had, a 1940 Spitfire had 12-14 seconds worth of ammo? Would be interesting to watch it again and count.
The way it was told was interesting as well with all 3 stories coming together in the end, pretty suspenseful.

Sadly he died in 1976. It appears that he wrote the book shortly after the end of the war and his family have recently put it into print. He was an early volunteer at the outbreak of war and flew in Vildebeestes, Hudsons, Venturas (Where he was Signals Leader) and a short stint in Dakotas. Highly recommended.

Been away with work for 2 weeks and I missed the release so thanks for posting! Looks amazing. There hasn't been a film where I have actually wanted to go to the movies for a long time now so I think this is the one!

Browsing through a second hand book shop the other day I purchased a paperback called 'Hurricane and Spitfire Pilots at War' by Terence Kelly. There is a chapter on 258 Squadron with two photographs, one shows what is described as Canadian and American pilots and the second are the NZ pilots, in both photos they are all wearing the silver fern badges.

Still can't beat the 1969 film. I'm picking if this goes ahead it will be mostly CGI and special effects.

Today I listened to Episode 13 with Ron Wilson-Walker and Merv Davies who flew in the same Hudson crew with 3 Squadron. What a couple of hardcase characters! They certainly had some good stories.

www.thelocal.dk/20170307/danish-schoolboy-finds-buried-ww2-aircraft-and-pilotA boy in the North Jutland town of Birkelse made an unexpected discovery when doing his history homework. Daniel Rom Kristiansen uncovered the wreckage - as well as the remains of the pilot - after being told by his father to ‘go out and find the plane that is supposed to have crashed in the field’. Klaus Kristiansen told local news station DR P4 Nordjylland that his grandfather once mentioned that a German plane had crashed in the fields behind their farm during the Second World War. “When my son Daniel was recently given homework about World War II, I jokingly told him to go out and find the plane that is supposed to have crashed out in the field,” said agricultural worker Kristiansen. The schoolboy and his dad promptly headed into the fields with a metal detector - initially just for fun, since Kristiansen believed that the wreckage had long since been removed. But the pair then began finding bits of wreckage. “We tried carefully digging with a trencher. More and more parts came up and the further we went, the more we found,” Kristiansen said to DR. After the amateur excavation turned up the remains of bones, the authorities were called, reports broadcaster DR. Police, bomb disposal experts and even German embassy representatives all arrived at the scene. “We also found documents and papers in the pockets of some clothes,” Kristiansen explained. The aircraft discovered by the Kristiansens is a Messerschmidt Bf 109, a model used in large numbers by the Luftwaffe during World War II. Kristiansen told DR that his family had worked on the land where the fighter plane was found for “20-30 years” without have any idea of the secret under the ground. “Luckily my son has something to write about in his assignment now. He’s actually been given the day off school today so that he can watch the police and bomb disposal people working. It’s quite exciting for all of us,” said Kristiansen.

The F-16s just did a very nice take off followed by a 'goodbye NZ' run over the base with climbing barrel rolls.
