After finishing a 12 hour night shift in Palmerston North I was a bit worried about getting stuck in traffic on the way back home to Ohakea but the traffic flowed nicely and my 'resident' sticker worked a charm. Watching from my deck at the moment but have a ticket for Sunday to get up close.

I think the F-16s have just arrived, they just went over my place and almost blew out my windows, well at least I think it was the F-16's they were going like the clappers.

First Light is a great book, I can't imagine being 18-19 and flying Spitfires during the Battle of Britain.

He served with 4 squadron from January 1944 till the end of the war so he flew in Hudson's when it was a General Reconnaissance Squadron and Ventura's when it converted to Bomber Reconnaissance. I want to research both era's but my main focus will be the Ventura period.

I'm looking for some advice from the authors and researchers out there in regards to visiting the NZ Archives in Wellington. I'm interested in gathering information on 4 (BR) Squadron RNZAF and their time in the Pacific in WWII and the training of Air Gunners for service in the Pacific.
I have been onto the NZ Archives website to see what I need to do in regards to viewing documents but am hoping someone out there can spell it out to a newbie in a step by step way. Finding the time to get to Wellington is another challenge so also wondering if anyone has ordered copies of documents from them and is it a easy process?
This is all for for finding out more about a family member who served in the Pacific and am attempting to do it between work and work related study. So it is all in an infant stage at the moment.
And of course if anyone has any information on the topics above I would be most interested!
Many thanks.

Had a chuckle when he mentioned how 23 Squadron got its 'Ghost Squadron' nickname.

I would love to play this game but my computer would not likely support it, reduced to watching videos on youtube!

Received my 'Res' for residents sticker in the post today since my road will be closed. Looks like a learner driver plate!

Sad to hear about Bernard Brown, if it wasn't for the forum I doubt we would have known as there doesn't appear to be any media stories on his passing (although I could be wrong). Added a link to a segment on Brown on the Battle of Britain Monument; bbm.org.uk/airmen/BrownBW.htm

Stumbled across this book while browsing through Amazon UK. Tells the story of Kiwi Air Gunner Ian Walker who flew in Blenheims with 600 Squadron during the Battle of Britain then in Wellingtons with 115 Squadron. He was shot down in August 1941 and taken Prisoner but was repatriated in 1943.

Both the Spitfire and Avenger have been up a lot recently but I haven't seen the Harvard. Not long ago the Avenger was being escorted by around 6 Texans in a very tight formation which looked impressive.

Funniest part, "This isn't a road" and right then 2 motorbikes come around the corner.

Did anyone else see this on Choice TV last night? I stumbled across it while flicking through channels. English mountaineer Joe Simpson attempts to recreate his fathers experiences in the Chindits in Burma in 1944. Appears to be a few epiosodes (not sure how many but last night was the first).
