It looks like Old Model Decals do the alternative cheatline. That would be the correct colours? Untitled by Andrew Sutton, on Flickr

Hey All, I found this image on the National Library website. It is Rongotai in 1947. In this cropped shot there seems to be an RNZAF DH89 with a cheatline. I can't tell which one it is. Looking at the ADF page I think it's either NZ524, NZ526 or NZ531, as those three were kept on strength with the RNZAF into the 1950's. All the rest were either destroyed on Fiji, or sold to NZNAC before this photo was taken. Has anyone ever seen an RNZAF DH89 with a cheatline like that. It looks like it is in its wartime scheme still with the thin fin flash. Here is a link to the original image rongotai 1947 by Andrew Sutton, on Flickr

Hi All, I have been building up a collection of 1/72 P40's. I have 46 completed ones so far and I have 16 unbuilt ones. I don't think that will be the end of the collection, it's just all the ones i have . I thought I might start posting a couple of pictures up of each completed one over the next wee while, partly to show the collection off, and partly to motivate me to finish the last 16. The first two are Whatifs.I have 6 whatifs completed and one to go. I try to think of realistic situations that P40's might have been used in for my whatifs. The first is an Israeli P40. Here is it's back story: When Israel was declared an independent state in 1948 their government appealed for aid in setting up their armed forces. Arms embargoes made this very difficult. Many South Africans saw the plight of the Israeli's, and many volunteered in the Israeli army to fight. Back home in South Africa a group of wealthy business men bought 6 surplus SAAF P40E Warhawks. These aircraft were quickly crated up and shipped to the island of Crete. Once on Crete the local authorities turned a blind eye as the P40s were put together. The six aircraft took off and made their way to Tel Aviv, arriving in mid June. Together with the Avia 199s, these aircraft made up the bulk of the early air force. The P40s were especially effective as ground attack aircraft. They were retired in the early 1950s as the mustangs and spitfires took over the main fighter role. My 1/72 model is painted as white 13, the most successful P40 in the IAF, and was responsible for shooting down 2 Egyptian spitfires and a DC3. Here is it's back story: Early in 1942 a US transport ship laden with 14 brand new P40f's bound for North Africa was blown off course during a storm. Straying into Spanish waters the ship was boarded by the Spanish navy and sailed to Barcelona. The crew were interned until the end of the war. The P40s were un-crated, given camouflage and Spanish markings and used as front line fighters alongside the BF109e. Three were lost in training incidents and 4 others relegated to spare parts during the war years. The Spanish P40s were relegated to a fighter and ground attack training role in 1946. They were finally retired in 1953. My 1/72 model is painted in its Spanish fighter camouflage that it retained throughout the war. Did the RNZAF and RAAF ever operate out of the same fields in the Pacific during the war? More specifically did the RAAF and RNZAF operate P40's together?

Was there ever much of a crossover of equipment on the front lines in the pacific for the RNZAF? For example did the RNZAF operate P40M's and P40N's at the front at the same time? Or did they ever operate P40's and Corsairs at the same time in the pacific? Every photo I've seen only seems to show one type there at a time

Charles Darby says in the book "RNZAF The First Decade" and I quote:"The three Union Airways DH86s also went to the AG & AOS. By January 1940 both Rapides and DH86s were silver overall with flashes on the wheel spats and code numbers, in both cases RED outlined in BLACK. Later in 1940 the codes were plain black."

Seeing the Union DH86's were red, I would say a red stripe would be the logical conclusion

It looks like Auckland Council was caught unaware, so they have issued a statement allowing RC planes to be flown in public parks link

As a fan of aviation I would be keen to attend. Getting at least IPMS Auckland if not other NZ IPMS chapters involved would be good as well...

Hey all, I just had this link pop up on my facebook page for an article on the Daily Mail website. They are claiming that the Marlborough Express is claiming that the FW190 is "damaged beyond repair". Surely this cannot be accurate?

Hi All. I got the Hobbyzone Super Cub RC plane for Christmas. Originally just foam white with blue stripes and US registration. On my second day of flying I was a bit low and the plane hit the ground, completely destroying the cowl, and putting a crack on one side of the fusalage. I pulled it apart, and taped the entire plane with packing tape, and material tape, before spray painting it, and making some custom markings. The real ZK - BRO is a super cub, but has never actually looked like this. I have yet to test it since repainting it, but seeing i could fly it on half power before the crash, it has plenty of spare power to pull itself along.

A P40 has had an undercarriage collapse on landing in the US. Isn't this the P40 that was restored here in NZ? Here is the link to the rather brief article link
