I flew into Blenheim last week and there were 3 Hercs there. I didn't get close enough to see any serial numbers but one of them was missing its entire Tail assembly and 2 engines. One was also doing taxiing runs up and down the runway.

That is pretty despicable really. Military personnel should be on at least 20% higher than minimum wage all of the time (as should many front line staff, teachers, police, nurses, firefighters, etc). The defense force should be held to the expectation that they pay people more than the civilian population. As you say Dave, the budgets for these front line people should reflect that reality and be annually increased.

These are really cool. This is one of my favorite threads. With the changes you make do you need to do much to move the centre of gravity back (or forward) to where it should be? Or does it not matter too much on these micro RC planes?

Posted on their Facebook page: It is with regret that we have to advise that Mountain Air, is permanently closing down. Our last day of operations will be March 29th, 2021. We wish to thank so many of you for the support we have received going back as far as 1988 when Keith and Robyn McKenzie started the business. Since purchasing it in 2007, we have seen the pre GFC growth, the slump through the GFC and then a great resurgence until March last year when we were all hit by the Covid-19 Pandemic. While our small business has not survived this, we know we are just one of many who have suffered badly through this crisis and our heartfelt thoughts go out to all of you in the tourism industry who are still struggling to survive. To Everyone who can make it in for a flight before we close we look forward to seeing you and giving one last look at our beautiful mountains! Kind regards The Mountain Air Team Photo from their facebook page for context

Bert Mercer flew whitebait out of Westland with his Dragonfly and the DH89. Again scale issues with those planes. There is an expensive 1/48 DH89 coming out, but no dragonfly. Minicraft does a 1/48 Supercub, so there is that as an option as well.

Hey everyone, This is my diorama of a deer recovery scene somewhere in the South Island. I have included all of the main ways of deer recovery, with the jet boat, Super Cub, and trusty Hughes 500. Tractors were flown in to bush sites to help with many tasks. This is my first large diorama, and my first attempt at making water. The hut, outhouse, and jetboat are all scratchbuilt out of cardboard. All i have to say is that it was cruel fate that cost the Black Caps the win here. However we cannot blame the umpires for mis-calculating the runs to Stokes. Just like we can't blame the umpires for giving Ross Taylor out when he wasn't. What we can do though is realize that those of us who watched or listened to even part of that game witnessed probably the greatest 1 day game in the history of cricket. This World Cup final will be remembered forever as the great game of cricket that it was. The other thing to take away from this game is the absolutely amazing attitude of the Black Cap team and Kane Williamson especially. That guy should be hailed as a hero and held up as to what a captain of a sports team should be like. Not only gracious in defeat, slow to blame anyone, and a staunch supporter of his team mates, but also a master tactician and one of the greatest cricketers in NZ and possibly world history. I think congratulations is to the English Cricket board and the ICC for putting on an amazing world cup.

Hi all, Dave is correct this is a photo of Ron Fechney's that he kindly allowed me to scan from his wonderful collection. I asked if i could show a friend them which Ron agreed and then he went and got them published in books and magazines. Ron and I were upset as no permission was given and neither of us ever saw a cent (not that I wanted anything but would have been nice for Ron to have gotten something! However David Muir used a couple in his awesome book "Southern Cross Mustangs" with permission Hi Anthony, I had no idea sorry. I just saw this photo on facebook. I can take it down if you want

I looked in my mustangs of the RAAF and RNZAF and couldn't see any with numbers on the wings. None of my decal sheets ever did either, so wondering too if it was unique to this aircraft?

Hey All, I was looking through Facebook and found this interesting photo of a TAF mustang. 40446706_10209932366145633_8167352231465582592_n (1) by Andrew Sutton, on Flickr I was wondering if it was standard practice to put NZ2 (i'm assuming the other wing has 417 on it) on the bottom of the wings like they appear in this photo? Or were those put on so that they knew the chopped off wings went with that mustang when it was sold off?

Is the Catalina the only contribution from NZ Warbirds? No mustang, Spit, DC3, Kittyhawk or Harvards? What about Mr Deere's aircraft? I didn't manage to make it over the hill, but am enjoying all the photos here and on facebook, but i have noticed the photos don't appear to show them.

Update from stuff... It looks like good news:
A helicopter has crashed fighting the fires in the Tasman district.
The crash is believed to have occurred near Eves Valley Rd, Brightwater.
Civil Defence Controller Roger Ball said the pilot was out of the helicopter and was receiving treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
News of the crash came at 2.50pm on Sunday.
Fire Controller for Fire and Emergency New Zealand said all air operations had currently ceased until further notice, Ball said.
"Our thoughts are with the pilot and his family at this time."
Ball said no further details are currently available.
More to come
