As a slight aside to the Omaka trip...
I had the pleasure of "doing lunch" on Mondays ferry with some bloke called Kermit Weeks and his #1 wood and fabric restoration man (whose name escapes me sorry...).
Kermit was actually quite "over-awed" with what NZ had to display. He is used to airshows running 3 hours maximum in the afternoon, not all day. I commented that thought that despite what was displayed at Omaka, I felt it was a little light-weight compared to other shows (no Chipmunks, large vintage DH craft, only the Strikemaster when we have L3 and Vampire machines flying) and it really made Masterton's show stand out (in my mind...).
Kermit is a very focused man and I could see the frustration on the face of his mtce man who constantly looks to give workable solutions to Kermit's problems - yet only Kermit knows in his head what the "master plan" (his words) were!!! Quite entertaining for me to observe...

Just the one from me (mobile dsl...) till I get home Humid... hell yeah!!! Awesome day today after a rough weekend. It isn't fair travelling all the way from Hamilton to Omaka to be stung with a 3Kg shedding 24 hour bug!!! Pete Kirby Attachments:

Great shots Darren. Awesome place this Waikato ;D Unlikely to see those UFOs... not dark enough yet and us model pilots are still at work (not that us model pilots would fly at night of course...). ... and it wasn't my multicopter at 10pm over Flagstaff Park two weeks ago either... honest!!! ;D Pete

Yeah!!!! Bring on the sun. Myself and 5 mates chartered an 8 seater from Fielding to Woodburne for a Saturday return trip in 2007. I can't wait to spend most of the week there... Only 3 days of work left before the family trip south. Damn handy with this show in the middle of the school holidays

I last went in 1990. Apparently it's changed!!!
My first club trip ;D ...Four blokes, two from Stratford, two from Hawera took a PA26-161 low through the weather over the straight to some little paddock at Omaka to swap around pilots. ...flying as a trainee into Queenstown (to refuel as the queue at Wanaka was huge) only to be told I'm #13 on approach... a shock to any country pilot... ...Being picked up by the club captain and wife (on honeymoon) and fitting 6 of us with luggage in Corolla at Wanaka...
I remember when... Tim Wallace manned the venison bbq (which he had caught earlier in the week) Saturday night during the barn dance... and hitch-hiking back into Wanaka at mid-night in the back of some delivery truck and being dropped off at The Edgewater (but we were staying in a horrible motel at the edge of town...).
Yup... time for another trip I think ;D
I better get Omaka out the way before suggesting it. 8 days to go before a weeks holiday...

We (thanks to my work) are showing 80% power failure across CH. Unfortunately this is looking much worse than quake #1. Good luck to all down there...

CTC have been flying a lot over the wider Hamilton area with some fairly tight turns. After watching them go straight for 20 seconds before completing a mixture of left, right and fig-8's, I'm guessing they are doing entry-level instrument training.
Just a guess... I saw them with a Diamond Twin over north Ham's the other night doing this.

The older of the two is Paul Marshall, President of the NZ Aerobatics Club and owner of Pitts S1-S ZX-WIZ. He was presented the trophy by Stuart Langley, Brian's son. Stuart is also a pilot - on Metroliners. Stuart arrived at the end of the day for the presentation. It was a special moment as Paul was also a business partner with Brian. I learnt to fly at Stratford Aeroclub 22 years ago with Stuart - and he still recognised me!!! Totally unexpected and an awesome finish to the day!!! Pitts S1-S ZK-WIZ is a 1981 factory-built machine that has been in NZ since 1989 thanks to Mr W Arnold and has been owned by great pilots like John Luff and Doug Brooker before being setup in a sydicate in 1999. Thank Dave. I was very lucky - several of the shots were so perfectly in focus that the aircraft almost looked cut 'n pasted onto the crappy background!!! Lots of luck The cloud texture while a pain did provide a nice change to the severely clear blue we have to put up with in NZ!!!
