Hi All.
I am a long-time aviation tragic (as well as NZ Railways)
I'm a bit of a gipsy as I alternate between Hawkes Bay & Horowhenua with Auckland, Waikato and Wellington thrown into the mix.
I have come into possession of the following:
* A very extensive aviation library that I will have to catalogue but includes such gems as "Defence Until Dawn" (489 Sqn), "Airgunner" by Francis Jackson and "No Glory Without Effort"
* A hard disc drive that is full of (RNZAF) excel stuff that I am slowly working through but it is in a hell of a mess so taking time.
* It also has LOADS of wartime Mosquito photos. * And who knows what else. So that is occupying my spare-time. I'm pleased to be part of the Forum and I hope my contributions are worthwhile.
Cheers Antonio

Hi there, my name is Aidan and I'm 13 years old. I am currently learning to be a glider pilot at Piako Gliding Club just north of Matamata. I am also a member of the Young Eagles at Waikato Aviation at Hamilton Airport. I am very much into all aspects of aviation but especially into Warbirds/military aircraft. One of my lifes biggest goals is to become a warbird pilot/display pilot and an airline pilot for hopefully Air New Zealand. I am a member of Piako Gliding Club (as mentioned), the Tiger Moth Club of NZ (as of a few days ago) and am planning on becoming a volunteer at Classic Flyers in Tauranga, and am also planning on becoming an associate member of NZ Warbirds. Here are some photos of me and a few of my main heroes and role models at Wings over Wairarapa last Feb: Photo 1: Keith Skilling and I after his Waco display (note Marty Cantlons NuWaco and Bevan Dewes Chippy in the background. Bevan is another main hero and role model of mine) Photo 2: Graeme Frew (Full Noise owner and pilot) and Mark O'Sullivan (Steadfast owner and pilot) and me right 20210227_144639 by ssargdude, on Flickr 20210227_134446 by ssargdude, on Flickr

It's great to have you here Aidan.
I know Aidan personally, he's very enthusiastic and very knowledgeable about aviation for someone his age, with a real passion for the topic, and he comes from an aviation-minded family. I hope members here will give him some great support and advice, and answer his questions, as he progresses through his aviation training and career.

G'day Aidan, good to see you here. This is a friendly group, and I'm sure you'll get plenty of encouragement and support. Most of us started in aviation in a similar way, and it's a lot of fun. All the best, go well! Cheers, Matt.

Hello Aidan - I've picked out two points you make; good to see you are learning to fly gliders and wishing to be a volunteer at Classic Flyers where I am to be found most Sunday afternoons. Were you among the Young Eagles who visited in ZK-WAM and ZK-UFS yesterday? 20210227_144639 by ssargdude, on Flickr 20210227_134446 by ssargdude, on Flickr

Hi all, Ive been lurking on this forum for maybe 10 years or so (sorry) however due to a busy life Ive not registered until now. From as long as I can remember ive been into aviation, from the early days going to Ardmore shows and visiting the Auckland Museum and MOTAT, to then living in Australia in my teens going to airshows, museums and living near RAAF bases Laverton and Point Cook. Ive been back in good ole NZ for nearly 30 years now and while Ive not been to many airshows I still have the interest, I especially love the work being done at Ardmore with the P-40's, still blows my mind what they can achieve. The aviation highlights in my life so far would be one of the RAAF anniversary shows in NSW when a B52 flew in from Guam (think it was mid 80's), seeing an RAAF Mirage flyby with full afterburner, visiting Subritzky's site, having a pilots tour of a U.S C-17 at Whenuapai, flying in the Warbirds DC-3. Cant wait for our new C-130's to get here - I live within the flightpath to Whenuapai!! Hoping like hell ZK-CAG doesnt leave us! What has happened with NZ3009 - ZK-RMH, I had hoped to see it some day.
Well, I cant promise Ill comment much however as stated Im on here often.

Hi folks, maybe it’s time to say hi What's your name?
Brian Greenwood Where are you from?
Kaiapoi, New Zealand How old are you?
Actual 61, metabolic 46, mental age – goodness only knows! What is your main interest in aviation? Is it historic? Airlines? Military... Everything! Actual flying, History - both civil and uncivil 😊, Air Shows Mad keen airshow photographer and love air-to-airs. dave Holmwood – remember the fantastic Dominie flight out of Wanaka? (Thanks Gavin) Other interests are old cars (anything Jaguar), and Railway history. Tell us about your background in aviation. Are you just an enthusiast or have you got more hands-on experience? Are you a pilot? Do you have an Air Force Background? Or a civil aviation background?
Started learning to fly at 16 (CAC), finished restricted PPL at 27, gave up at 32 (family). Restarted at 52, eventually bought a microlight (Rans S6). I recently upgraded to a tailwheel 80hp S6, ZK-MLD (half share). Been fun doing tail wheel training, no vicious circles yet… I’m not a hugely experienced pilot, no ‘Skilling passes’ from me – but I do enjoy extending my skills and taking a risk-management approach. Would love to be good enough to fly one of the scale SE5a’s one day… can only dream on a tight budget!
Main job – IT Mangler, sorry, Manager. Nil Air Force, although applied for RNZAF at 16. Missed on the maths by a smidgeon and never got back to it. Do you belong to any aviation groups, like the NZ Warbirds, RNZAF Association, Royal Aeronautical Society or CAF, etc?
CRAC – Canterbury Recreational Aircraft Club, editor of RecWings. Are you an aircraft modeller? (Scale or R/C)
Sadly, yes… mainly 1:48 but also a fervent fan of Wingnut Wings kits. Current projects: Revell 1:48 T-6 as an RNZAF beauty (Thanks to Ventura’s gorgeous decals), and a WnW RE.8 as (hopefully) Hugh Blackwell’s aircraft. He’s from Kaiapoi, too. What are your favourite aviation books?
Mainly biographies and reference material. What are your favourite aviation films or TV programmes?
The Battle of Britain The Battle of Britain The Battle of Britain Wings (BBC, although the completely different NBC series was OK, too) Tora Tora Tora Dark Blue World Spitfire (and probably Lancaster when I get to see it) Did I mention The Battle of Britain? Flight of the Phoenix Dunkirk Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines Airplane! Snakes on a plane (actually not, just checking that you’re paying attention) Trains, Planes, and Automobiles (all three passions covered) Blue Max (well the flying and scenery is fab) The Battle of Britain The Expanse – best SciFi that I can recall! Reunion of Giants – magnificent DVD of the CWH Lancaster crossing the Atlantic and flying with the BBMF Lancaster I won’t mention Dad’s Army (but they did have a Bristol Freighter standing in for a Luftwaffe bomber IIRC). “Don’t tell him, Pike!”. Do you frequent other aviation forums?
no, I don’t think anyone else would have me. Have you any comments or suggestions for this forum, to hopefully improve your own personal usage and enjoyment on the forum?
Yes, *Don’t* move it to Facebook. Although I’d follow if you did. Here’s me before I became a beardy-Leaf driver! brians-place.com/aviation/me/images/slying-wave-350.jpgSaddened to hear of the passing of the Queen today, too.
