Welcome Brian, I thought you were already here, lol.
Yes, an unforgettable flight that was in the Rapide, with Adam flying, and the Staggerwing and Fox Moth next to us. Thanks again for inviting me into that!
Nope this place won't move to Facebook. Sadly Facebook has seemingly taken a lot of the traffic that used to come here as things are slower these days but I think most of the people posting there still read here too. I do have a page there for the WONZ Show, but that is separate from the WONZ Forum. This place will keep on ticking over no matter what, and without the aggro or ads of Facebook.

baz62 I flew DEE on Boxing day, 1978, and a few other times as well. My favourite was EBP, because she managed to get me around my first solo circuit in 1981 (That's what you get for starting when your only income is a paper round). Still have a soft spot for the old 140's. Do you want some air to airs of your Auster? One of my favourite civilian aircraft. Have a suitable camera plane... dave Yeah I've been lurking furtively for ages, just thought I would introduce myself. Can't take credit for getting you on t hat flight, I only mentioned your name and it snowballed quickly! It was like mentioning royalty, quite nice to see. Yeah facebook has it's place - can't help feeling that it manipulates me!

Wouldn't need a camera plane she's still in bits! Yes EBP is also in my logbook. I went solo in EBB which sadly is no longer with us.

Hello My name is Ian Cook, former Sgt in the Avionics trade, retired in 1993.
I actually thought I already had an account here, but when I tried to login, it said the name was already linked/upgraded (or something), and suggested I login with my email account, but that failed because special characters are disallowed (how are you supposed to use an email address with out the "@"..?)
Anyhow, if an admins can merge my earlier account with this one, I'd be grateful.

Hi all, we now have loads of members from around the world, and lots more non-members breezing in for a regular check of the forums. There are really only a small proportion of these who regularly post here, some members have never made posts and most haven't filled in their profile yet. I reckon we shouldn't stand on ceremony. We're all friendly here. It would be nice if everyone could introduce themselves a little- you may make some new friends and good contacts. And this will be good for newcomers to read about the other members. I thought maybe if I post a questionnaire you could copy it, paste it into a new post, and then give your own individual answers. If you don't want to answer particular questions, simply write N/A for no answer... Here goes What's your name? Where are you from? How old are you? What is your main interest in aviation? Is it historic? Airlines? Military... Tell us about your background in aviation. Are you just an enthusiast or have you got more hands on experience? Are you a pilot? Do you have an Air Force Background? Or a civil aviation background? Do you belong to any aviation groups, like the NZ Warbirds, RNZAF Association, Royal Aeronautical Society or CAF, etc? Are you an aircraft modeller? (Scale or R/C) What are your favourite aviation books? What are your favourite aviation films or TV programmes? Do you frequent other aviation forums? Have you any comments or suggestions for this forum, to hopefully improve your own personal usage and enjoyment on the forum?

Hi, Maybe not your usual question but>>>>> I am trying to find a photo of the emblem on the leather ?briefcase issued in WW11. I can vaguely see the crown at the top, wings in the middle and ferns up each side. ? RNZAF along the bottom. It looks like a gilt stamp under the owners embossed initials. I have looked on line but failed to find. Any info appreciated. I can supply photo of the case if needed. It belongs to a friend and was her fathers, my father had one similar from RAF UK but that is long gone. thank you Anne-Marie

What's your name? Luke Watts Where are you from? Westport, New Zealand How old are you? 16 What is your main interest in aviation? Is it historic? Airlines? Military... GA, Airlines, Military? I just love flying
Tell us about your background in aviation. Are you just an enthusiast or have you got more hands on experience? Are you a pilot? Do you have an Air Force Background? Or a civil aviation background? Well I have take flying lessons periodically over the past 4ish years, amounting just under 10 hours. Although I will be going on an National Aviation Course through Air Cadets next week, at RNZAF Woodburne, and so my hours should be going up shortly.
Do you belong to any aviation groups, like the NZ Warbirds, RNZAF Association, Royal Aeronautical Society or CAF, etc? Does the Air Trainning Corps count?
Are you an aircraft modeller? (Scale or R/C) Not really, although I think it could be cool to get into the R/C hobby. But actually flying is 1000x better! XD What are your favourite aviation books? The Biggles SeriesWhat are your favourite aviation films or TV programmes? Well I love comedy... sooo: Airplane!Do you frequent other aviation forums? Nope, I'm new to the dedicated forums
Have you any comments or suggestions for this forum, to hopefully improve your own personal usage and enjoyment on the forum? I don't think so... lol

Nice one Luke, enjoy your course at Woodbourne. I have fond memories of my National Flying Course way back in 1985 It was held at back Omaka then & at least two of my course mates are current Air NZ captains. The ATC will be a great fit for you with your flying passion - keep putting your hands up for other courses!

What's your name? Ed Meysztowicz (Polish) Where are you from? Melbourne, Australia How old are you? 54 What is your main interest in aviation? Is it historic? Airlines? Military... Historic, engineering, metallurgy, propellers, design, Hart biplanes, Mosquito, Highball, www.silverbiplanes.comTell us about your background in aviation. Nothing formal. Used to stand on the threshold at Point Cook, when young, during flying days, and be disappointed not to be struck by a propeller. Arrested by the MPs for pressing my nose into PC9s, but how else could you get a close look? Fell out of a car after a youthful party onto an airfield when I saw Wirraways in the distance and ended up a short time later being a passenger at 2,000 feet in a display sequence banging my head against the plexi and enjoying it. Something good about rag and tube, fumes and the doppler rip of a prop that even a penguin on a melting ice floe can appreciate. I do commend that much of this machinery placed lead into the deserving hides of fascists that liked to make soap out of people and face slapping folk that liked to behead, enslave and starve people. Reaching for the sky keeps me fit. Do you belong to any aviation groups, like the NZ Warbirds, RNZAF Association, Royal Aeronautical Society or CAF, etc? I like to support Museums and restorers Are you an aircraft modeller? (Scale or R/C) As a kid I tried my hand. For some reason I did a Ki-61 Tony and immensely enjoyed its rakish, purposeful DB601 nose. I remain terribly conflicted about this, as it was part of the tip of the Japanese sword, that seemed to think it was the bureaucratic norm to be continuously medieval and cruel. This closet love extended to getting the remains of Ki61-1 242, which are now displayed under the Beaufighter at Moorabbin Air Museum. Much of ‘Aeroplane Disease’ can be blamed on Darby et al and their mind poisoning tome ‘Pacific Aircraft Wrecks’, probably the most consequential cultural export of NZ since feijoa juice and Phar Lap. Seeing Tony 242 in that book, eventually acquiring it and making that goddam fascist model leaves me in a confused, trembling state, like a school boy on fenantyl, when I see Tonys in Avspecs or HARS. I feel vulnerable revealing this. It’s a secret between us, right? What are your favourite aviation books? Too many. Love technical books, thousands of them. Bios : Merian Coopers memoirs of the 1921 Polish-Soviet air war, as an American volunteer, he later becoming the producer of King Kong, with its aerial scenes. This should become a P Jackson movie, the Breguet is already at Omaka. Books about obscure campaigns like the East Africa air battles between Wellesleys, Hawker Hartbees and Fiat CR-42s, the Habbinya campaign between Irak with Hawker Harts and the RAF with Hawker Harts. Too many books. What are your favourite aviation films or TV programmes? BoB, Das Boot, the strafing scene.. There needs to be more realistic Das Boot filmography, something like Kittyhawks over Port Moresby with pilots filling their boots from dysentry. I do wonder what became of the ground crew from Japanese squadrons at Wewak. Do you frequent other aviation forums? Key, kinda. Have you any comments or suggestions for this forum, to hopefully improve your own personal usage and enjoyment on the forum? Don’t ban me Dave!

OK What's my name Shelley I live in Marlborough. Nz 52 years of age. Why I'm here is because I have always been interested and intrigued in my Grandad. I never met him, wish I had. He died way to young at 32. Sorting through my father's estate I have come across a lot of information about him that I never new existed and wish I had seen a long time ago about what he did in ww2. It is a fascinating read and I understand why my dad became a pilot. Anyway that's a quick run down.
