Sad to see that the well known RNZAF display pilot and author Ted Arundell has passed away.
ARUNDEL, Wng. Cdr. Edmund Chester (Ted). A.F.C. R.N.Z.A.F. NZ. 48135 & 78302. Peacefully at Tauranga in his 82nd year. Dearly loved and adored husband of Elaine for 56 years. Proudly cherished Father of Mark, Grant, and Carin. Father in law of Carol, and Liz and grandfather of Rachel, Jessica, Christy, Imogen, Levi, and Jensen. Loved brother of Dawn Darby (Hastings), and Betty McCook (Tasmania). Flying free of these Earthly bonds one last time. Forever in our hearts. We lived to the full, I couldn't have asked for more. Citation Air Force Cross (NY1965): During the past twelve years Squadron Leader Arundel served an exceptional three tours at the Central Flying School where he made an outstanding contribution to the maintenance of pure flying standards in the RNZAF; developed a unique standard in aerobatic display flying, and completed the Jet Trainer Evaluation with the Royal Australian Air Force. His enthusiasm and dedication were apparent in his application to the development of new techniques for inverted spin recovery in Vampire aircraft which gained Royal Air Force recognition. He became widely known for his particular skills in low level aerobatics that gained admiration from United States Air Force pilots. His evaluation flying on Jet Trainers gained favour from Aircraft Manufacturers’ Test Pilots during circumstances that involved flying to the known limits of aircraft performance and occasionally beyond. In all these activities Squadron Leader Arundel became known for his courage, determination and steadfast discipline in the face of adversity which sometimes went beyond the normal call of duty. John James William Kruse 72040, PTI, RNZAF. On October 16, 2011, passed away at NorthHaven Hospital in his 84th year. Much loved husband of Margaret. Dearly loved father of John and Kim, Lynne and Larry, Liz and Gary, David and Desi and the late Rudi. Loved grandfather of 13 and a Great grandfather of 15. Special thanks to the staff at NorthHaven and Dr Webster. No flowers by request please. Sadly missed. F/S (RTD) W. J. (John) Dockery Q72625 PFI RNZAF 13 Oct 1948 to 12 Oct 1972 has passed away today Friday at 6 AM after a short illness with cancer. Funeral arrangements will follow next week which I am assuming will be in Christchurch.

Another well known pilot has left us, Harold 'Mo' Moss:
Air Commodore (RTD) Harold Gordon MOSS Q72349 GD Pilot CBE, AFC, RNZAF 24 June 1948 to 1 December 1979 . On Friday 21 October 2011, at Taupo Hospital. Aged 86 years. Loved husband of Pam, Loved Dad of Karen, Tony, and Michael, and all of his grandchildren and great- grandchildren. A funeral service is to be held at St Paul's Union Church, corner Tamamutu Street and Rifle Range Road, Taupo on Thursday (October 27) at 2.00pm to be followed by private cremation. Harold Moss served in WWII, from memory on Corsairs. After the war he served with No. 41 Squadron flying Dakotas in Singapore, and was later Commanding Officer of both No. 14 Squadron (Vampires and Canberras) and No. 75 Squadron (Canberras). He also served as Aide-de-Camp to the Governor General.

His experience has covered a diverse range of Service activities principally in the areas of operational flying, flying training and the command of major units. In 1971 he was promoted to his present rank and took command of the RNZAF Operations Group. In this post, which is the senior operational command appointment in the RNZAF, Air Cdre Moss bore the major responsibility for the control and co-ordination of the operational effectiveness of the RNZAF. GRAY, Ernest John. RNZAF 40828 Sgt. 75th Squadron WWII On 23 October 2011, at Whangarei. Aged 94 years. Dearly loved son of the late Annie and Ernest Gray. Loved brother of the late Dolly, Tom, Bob, Nellie, Frank, and Harry. Much loved and admired Uncle and Great Uncle of Tina, Harold, Tanya, and Wade; and all his nieces and nephews. He will be sorely missed by friends and family. Colin passed away about mid-day today. As many will know, he suffered from cancer. No further information is available as yet.
