Owen Jones has asked me to post this: LEA, Anthony Richard:Passed away peacefully at Waikato Hospital on Sunday 30 September 2018. Dearly loved husband and best friend of Jocelyn. Loved father and father-in-law of Stephen, Helen and Even, Diana and Barry, Jessica and Andrew. Loved grandad of Samantha, Olly, Jeremy, Claudia, Kristy, James, Gina, and Joshua. In keeping with Tony's wishes a private cremation has taken place. All communications to the Lea family c/- PO Box 4449, Hamilton East, 3247. Published in Waikato Times on Oct. 3, 2018 Tony Lea was a Rhodesian who came out to NZAIL/PAC in the 1970’s. He was with CAA as one of the Hamilton Aircraft Surveyors for some years (not to be confused with George Lee who was Chief Surveyor then and earlier). Tony was also Chief Inspector then QA Manager at PAC and latterly Aeromotive. So all of his NZ life was on Hamilton Airfield. When he was in Rhodesia, he built a car of his own design and of aircraft grade alloy and sheeting (not fibreglass, though it looks moulded). He brought it to NZ and it was his daily conveyance right up until he finally retired. He had re-engined it in the 1990’s and upgraded a lot of other things to keep it modern. It is a beautifully crafted piece of engineering. It is registered as a new type in NZ as the Lea 1A (or might be the Lea A1). It looks a bit like a Citroen of the era but he was insistent that it is no relation. I have attached a photo from the early 1990’s, certainly before 1995.

Sad news from the Air Force Museum of New Zealand, this from their Facebook page: "It is our team’s very sad duty to announce that our Director, Thérèse Angelo MNZM, has passed away following a long, and brave, fight with illness. Thérèse has left an indelible mark on our Museum in her 31 years here. Her loss will be deeply felt amongst our team, as well as so many who knew and worked with her across the RNZAF and museum and heritage sectors. We will provide an update on funeral arrangements once known. In the meantime, our love and thoughts are with her family at this very difficult time."

Sad to hear this news. Therese made our Air Force Museum into a world class facility, and her dedication and drive will be sadly missed.

I was first in touch with Therese in 1985, at which time she was working at Whanganui's Public Library; hard to believe that 33 years have sped by and now she is gone far to early and no longer with us. Hers was an amazing journey from start to finish at the Air Force Museum - starting off there in sole charge of a modest-sized room and library and archive collection and finishing up as Director of the Museum overseeing all of its operations, the library/archive part of which since 1997 has its own dedicated building and staff. Therese's skills ranged from hands on administering of archive material and related correspondence and visitor queries about same, to those required for management at the highest level. in 1999 she was awarded the Chief of Air Staff Commendation for outstanding service with the [then] RNZAF Museum, Christchurch, and her contribution towards the Research and Studies Department. In this month's issue of Air Force News appears the announcement of her being awarded the New Zealand Division of the Royal Aeronautical Society's Meritorious Services Award for her passion for and significant contributions to New Zealand's museums. In-between these two awards she was also made a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit. Her loss will be felt by many outside the Air Force Museum - she was a past president of the New Zealand Society of Archivists, for example, and her expertise was often called upon by other organizations, one of her last was assisting with the current 100th WWI anniversary programme.

A very sad day to see the passing of Therese Angelo. She was the backbone of the Air Force Museum for three decades. Her drive and enthusiasm to build and expand on the original concept and collection of the "Air Force Historical Centre" and latterly the Air Force Museum has seen it become a world recognised facility that caters for all interested in our military aviation history, and to educate the younger generations on the sacrifices that have been made over the years.

Yes sad she had gone too soon but as has been said she has done a great job running the Museum. I only got to meet her the once when I visited to get copies of Auster factory drawings and found her very friendly and interested in what I was seeking. RIP Theresa.

And, sadly, another good man gone today. This is from the Marlborough Aero Club's Facebook Page. RIP Neville. It is with great sadness that we say farewell to Neville Brown who passed away this morning. Neville was our friend, historian, past president, HLM, and just all round good guy who loved MAC. He will be sadly missed, his yarns were always so good. Join us on Sunday night in the MAC bar for a get together to chat and remember him. Neville we will all do the traditional toast to the Queen with our ports and now toast to you as well.
