Awesome that is wonderful Y80062 you have completed my record. There is no Y prefix in Haggard's number, as he died before such prefixes were introduced, in 1971 (as explained in Vol 3 of my For your Tomorrow). Errol

Poor Doug was sitting on the door sill of a Bristol Freighter as it was being tractor-towed at Hobsonville. He fell forward onto the ground and was run over by the port main wheel.

Puzzled OJ. How do you fall out the door and be hit by the main wheel? The wheel is several metres outboard of the fuselage. Was it turning?

Dave, the main wheel is only about 2.5 metres outboard, and if someone fell and tumbled trying to get up, that would put them about that distance. Back in the dim dark ages, we were told about this incident as part of our introduction to servicing Freighters. I arrived on Whenuapai in October '66, so it was still quite fresh.

The accident involving Doug Haggard happened at 2240 (nite time) at Whenuapai on 27 January 1966. One of the contributing factors when the accident was reviewed was that the tractor driver didn't see Doug fall as the tractor was facing the other way because the Freighters were towed from the tail wheel backwards.

It would be the side door, not the front doors, and he would have landed right in the path of the wheel.isc
