Wow, a good innings but still sad. He must have been "the old man" on the squadron.

Today (Wednesday 27 June) we said Godspeed to two long serving members of NZBCA. Reverand Jack Ward (NZ416528) Navigator 195 and 75 Squadrons, was farewelled at a Requiem Mass held at t Marys in Ponsonby. Jack joined the priesthood postwar and was the NZBCA padre for many decades, officiating at our services and the 2009 unveiling of the NZBCA Memorial in Auckland. In 2005 concerned about the results of his wartime actions, Jack returned to Germany where in 1945 he was part of a raid on Bremen that may have hit civilian areas, a church and a school. Meeting rsidents who were children at the time he was relieved to learn that the school had not been hit and the church had been restored. He was one of several ex RAFBC airmen to join the church postwar. Jack always was ready to be of help with our veterans and his frequent 'God Bless' was very genuine. A good man and a delight to know. God Speed. Jack officiating at the NZBCA dedication in Auckland 2009. S/L Lynsay Drummond DFC (NZ414043) Pilot 149 and 75 Squadrons had studied law before joining up, and his attention to detail served him well in serving two tours. His DFC in 1943 was awarded for completing his operation of mine laying following damage from flak and having wounded crew members, "devotion to duty" Post war Lin returned to law and was a founding member of the NZBCA and 75 Squadron Associations. Just three weeks before his death (in his favourite chair with a book) Glen Turner (75 Sq.Secretary) brought him to the BCA service at Auckland museum where he laid the 75 Sq. wreath. After a coffee he wanted to do more and went to MOTAT to meet up with a Lacaster again. Still full of energy he suggested a few beers. Lin was the ultimate nice guy and gentleman. RIP. Glen Turners shot with the Lancaster behind.

Bernie was my Sergeant on 14 Squadron when I was an Electrical Mechanic. We didn't always see eye to eye but he was okay.

He was a Corporal in the Electrical Bay at Ohakea in the 1960's. I thought he was a good conversationalist with a fine sense of humour, but rather pompous toward trainees and I cannot say my trade knowledge was enhanced through his efforts when compared with other NCO's in the Bay.

Not so far mentioned but some here. particularly anyone from 5Sqn, may recall John Lawton, AEO, who died recently.John Lawton was a Kiwi but served first in the RNZN then the RAF before returning to NZ and the RNZAF .
John was an electronic warfare officer, but had a desk job in Wellington for many years. Known as "Biggles" or "Kiwi" and a superb party animal!
