I just received this message from Don Clark: Dave, You kindly posted this rnzaf.proboards.com/thread/15423/elephant-on-wing-bobby-campbell in Feb last year. I thought I should let you know of the passing of author Peter Wright, in Hastings. His biography of his father-in-law, RAF Blenheim pilot and escaper F/O RD (Bobby) Campbell, "The Elephant On My Wing", had only been published by Woodfield in 2011, after much protracted effort by Peter. In February 2013, Peter became aware that he was terminally ill. This news he passed on with kindly composure and for a time continued to correspond, about his progress and about Bobby and his story. Peter Aimers Wright died at home in Hastings NZ on 1 September 2013, attended upon by his wife Robin, née Campbell, and immediate family. Peter's book stands as testament to his perseverance - and continues to be available from Woodfield Publishing at www.woodfieldpublishing.co.uk/contents/en-uk/p348_The_Elephant_On_My_Wing.htmlDon Clark www.211squadron.org

All messages to Derby family C/- PO Box 30-127 Lower Hutt 5040. From Colin Hanson’s By Such Deeds - Honours and Awards in the Royal New Zealand Air Force, 1923-1999: DERBY, Wing Commander Graham Colin.L594353; Born New Plymouth, 24 Apr 1934; RNZAF 3 Jan 1953 to 25 Apr 1989; Pilot. Flying Logbook - Green Endorsement: (9 Aug 1960) The Air Board has approved the award of a Flying Log Book Green Endorsement to Flying Officer G C Derby, Pilot of No 75 Squadron for an outstanding display of flying skill and airmanship in a Vampire aircraft. Through no fault of his own this Pilot was involved in a mid-air collision with another Vampire at 1,700 ft during formation practice [on 20 Aug 1957]. From this moment Fg Off Derby acted with great calmness. His aircraft was badly damaged and he was carrying the greater portion of the elevator and tailplane of the other aircraft wrapped over the leading edge and air intake of his port mainplane. With great presence of mind the Pilot accurately assessed the situation, and despite the adverse effect on the handling qualities of the aircraft and rising jet pipe temperatures due to the large obstruction on the wing, decided against an immediate forced landing and was able to achieve a successful wheels down landing on the aerodrome. The fact that the aircraft stalled on to the ground at 120 knots and that the tailplane of the other aircraft did not fall clear until the landing was completed, emphasises the high degree of flying skill displayed by this Pilot.
Also served in Antarctica and South Vietnam. CO 3 Sqn RNZAF Jan 1972-Jul 1974. Errol

TARBUCK , John C de G ( NZ 421790) Pilot 626 Squadron , at the Elizabeth Knox Home Epsom , 17 December John was a long serving member of the NZBCA Wednesday gang. It was a highlight of his week and went for a yarn and the tea. He did a full tour and only ever had one bullet hit his Lancaster. Born in a later generation he may have been a hippie or a banker and he would certainly say about his funeral ,,,whats all the fuss about . One of our real gentlemen. Godspeed John.

Thelma was the sister of the famous late Cambridge trainer and jockey Kenny Browne. I don't believe they used the Stewart name usually. She was also the mother of Geoff Thomas who has the fishing show in TV.
