For those of you who know anything about NZDF regimental numbers you will have observed that Ted Knowsley's one was 82023 which is an RNZAF one. Ted enlisted as a Nav U/T but was washed off his course in 1966. I was the radio operator on the ground station ZKW Wigram when he did his last flight that was a night cross-country. All three Nav students managed to get their courses wrong!!!. Ted was also my boss on the SGDCN project 1986 - 1988 before I took over the DCU. A quiet giant, but extremely intelligent.

Civil pilots are placed up here as and when the news breaks about their deaths and people post notices. It's impossible to find them by searching obits though if they are not known to whoever's searching, most those I find and post is done by searching the words "RNZAF", "RAF" and "WAAF" in the obits pages, but families seldom include "Pilot" in a death notice.

Just been informed of death of Ces Edge, ex 30 Squadron Radar fitter, over the weekend. Ces also served at Norfolk Island post war. Death notice should be in tomorrows Waikato Times. I note he is shown as electrical in the 30 Sqdn page, but his service records confirm him as Radar. Unfortunately when I got to know Ces, he was already suffering dementia, but his family kindly gave me a copy of his service records, information re 30 Sqdn reunions, a scan of a Norfolk Is newspaper, photos (most already seen on here)and other memorabilia.

I had the privilege of flying with some great instructors, but Dick Stephenson (in DJE) gave me the most meaningful demonstration of a departure stall I received in my entire flying days.
I also remember a very emotional Ditch Harding speaking of Dick in a TV doco about one of the numerous downturns in the ag aviation industry.
Fly on, Dick.

Dick was a great friend during the 60s. We had a great spray season in W A. Especially watching Dick doing circuits in my pawnee, without a Aussie licence at Bruce Rock. I think it was his first flight in a Pawnee too.Sorry to see him go. George
