Citation Distinguished Flying Cross (19 Oct 1943): [75(NZ)Sqn RAF (Stirling)] Flying Officer Alexander in the course of his tour of duty, has attacked very many targets, including Berlin, Hamburg and important centres in the Ruhr. He has displayed great skill and determination, and obtained many successes. One night in August during an attack on Berlin his aircraft was attacked by several fighters. Flying Officer Alexander skilfully out-manoeuvred the enemy aircraft, thereby enabling his gunner to shoot down one of the attackers. Citation Distinguished Flying Cross (20 Jul 1945): [10 Sqn RAF (Halifax)] This officer has displayed exceptional skill and courage as a navigator. He has been a conscientious member of his crew throughout his tour of duty. During a mission to Croixdalle in July, 1944, his aircraft encountered intense and accurate anti-aircraft fire while en-route to the target. This drove the aircraft off track, but by skilful navigation Flying Officer Shilton enabled his captain to reach the objective and complete the mission with success. His coolness and steadiness have been of great value to his crew. Sadly we lost two Corsair pilots on the weekend. I heard this morning that Gavin Gullery (No. 20 Squadron) passed away on Sunday - no death notice online though - and I also found this morning that Don Moore has passed away. On the same day that we visited the Buffalo, Hurricane and P-47 pilot Jim Cranstone, and the Catalina radio mech Allan Geary in the house packed with antiques. Remember? I am sure you were there for Gavin's interview too?

This chap seems to have been one of the last of the pre-war RNZAF members? There cannot be many more left alive sadly NYE, Brian Elliot MBE JP Retired. Service No’s 38197 & 70408 RNZAF WW2. On November 3rd 2014 at Home, aged 96, beloved soulmate of Enid and much loved father and father in law of Claire, Frances and Allan, Wendy and Desly, Katherine and Gerald. Proud and loving grandfather of 11 and great grandfather of 8. A celebration of Brian’s life will be held on Friday 7th November 2014 at 11am at St Michael and All Angels Church in Gt North Rd Henderson
