I personally am not all that interested in going to any airshow that is 90% non-airminded people in the crowd, ie petrolheads, westies and boagans and their sheilas who only go if there is load noise. They can stick to their motor racing tracks and leave aviation to those who appreciate it. That's one reason I am not a big fan of Wings and Wheels shows. The RNZAF is not doing this show to make money, so they don't need to pull big crowds. And huge crowds at an airshow is an utter pain in the arse, look at the trouble it has caused Whenuapai and Adrmore. And when you're actually there you can never get a fenceline possie or see half the exhibits for all the drop kicks milling around. I'd prefer Omaka and Whitianga style shows any day. Well issue me a mullet and an AC/DC T-shirt Dave, because I LOVE afterburners and jet noise ;D. Without the non-airminded public attending, there are no airshows beyond invite only open houses. Be careful what you wish for

I agree with Mumbles - gate takings at airshows don't cover much in the way of the costs of running one if you're wanting to bring stuff in from overseas, and while Dave is right in that the RNZAF won't be looking at profits, it won't want to have to fork out cash either. While other AirForces (USAF, RAAF, etc) may be happy to turn up at their cost, someone will have to foot the bill if you're wanting to see anything privately owned turn up from offshore (ie Temora Hudson). There would be no Zero, or Wildcat, etc at places like Wanaka without the qty of "bogans" that walk through the gates to see an F-111 dump fuel out its exhaust pipe....

Actually thinking about it they might be going to use the profit for the new Air Force Museum of New Zealand extension I guess, so in that case bring on the mullets and munters.

I realise that general public means money, I just prefer airshows that are just that, airshows. Some have developed into county fairs and big boys toys shows, with so much ephemera that is nothing to do with an airshow it's just stupid.

Maybe they need to add classic lines like "yummy food and yummy girls" to the advertising, just like that dodgy dude did for the Waikato Air Show-that-never-happened. ;D

I see that the RNZAF's website now lists the display line up for this show, as:
RNZAF aircraft displays Red Checkers Historic Flight Tiger Moth, Harvard and Sioux C -130 Hercules Boeing 757 P3K Orion UH1H Iroquois A109 LUH SH2G Seasprite B200 King Air Kiwi Blue Parachute Team
Civilian aircraft displays Dakota Catalina Auster Devon Kittyhawk Spitfire
What? No Mustang, Vampire, NH90 and all those fantasy planes form overseas then?

I see the Historic Flight have a Bell 47 now, great news. Are they still getting a Devon?
I wonder if an NH90 will end up being on display?
I would love to see The Vintage Aviators Avro 504 there....be amazing since it is an original RNZAF aeroplane

Warbird collector Brendon Deere has very kindly offered to host a Wings Over New Zealand Forum Meet in his Biggin Hill Hangar at RNZAF Base Ohakea on the evening of Friday the 30th of March 2012, the evening before the big RNZAF 75th Anniversary Airshow.
This will be a very rare and excellent opportunity for forum members.
If you are going to be in the Ohakea area that evening and you're keen to attend the Forum meet in Brendon's hangar, please let me know asap so we can make arrangements.

It seems a few of you plan to be there. Those who want to come, can you please email me your full real names so I can put together a guest list for Brendon so he knows how many people to expect? Also let me know if others (family/friends) will be with you. Thanks. dave_daasnz@hotmail.com
