ok, will have to re read my book, but I took these with the dial on A and had auto focus turned on , on the lens itself. This looks crystal clear on my screen in the nikon editor. Have to look at my breathing and body position when snapping away, and to not be too hasty in taking the shots. Stop drinking V while waiting.

Hey Beagle, nice photo that one. You can see the settings when you log on to Photobucket and look at your album. On the right is a little arrow under the title 'Photo info'. For example, the photo above has the following data attached to it: File Name: DSC_0069.jpg File Size: 37 kb - 1023 x 621 Camera Make: NIKON CORPORATION Camera Model: NIKON D3100 Date/Time: 2011:05:30 16:45:03 Resolution: 1023 x 621 Flash Used: No Focal Length: 105.0mm (35mm equivalent: 157... Exposure Time: 0.0031 s (1/320) Aperture: f/4.5 ISO Equiv.: 100 Whitebalance: Auto Metering Mode: matrix Exposure: aperture priority (semi-auto) GPS Latitude: S 0d 0m 0.00s GPS Longitude: W 0d 0m 0.00s I'm not sure if people can still see the settings if your photo album is made private, but I guess if the pros can see it then they can help you.

Good to see you are getting out an using your new camera, Beags - mate, the only thing you'll probably ask yourself now is, "Why did it take me so long to get one of these!"

Started early again so had time at finish to stop by along the back of the airfield again. Quite good as I can sit in the back by the open door out of any wind and have a drink sitting there etc, plus plenty of places I can secure my body to, to keep it still, well stiller than standing out in cold. Wish I had got the variant with the big electric sunroof so I could see over security fences etc.

Looking great Beagle well done and keep em coming.
You might like to try the Canterbury Aero Club in the afternoons as there is a good view from the balcony and the people there are friendly too. You can stay inside till some action happens and another bonus the coffee / tea is excellent. You might even bump in to some other spotters there too.
Cheers
Colin

Generally, photos will keep the original exif data attached and there are programs that allow you to view that information (even Windows will allow some of that data to be viewed. I use a program (free download) called Photome which will bring out all the data present. It is particularly helpful in these situations when someone can't remember what settings they used or it can be used as we are, to investigate the image and suggest a way of getting a better result. Hang on... I'll see if I can find a link for photome... here we go www.photome.de/download_en.htmlIt will integrate itself into Windows and give you an option to use it if you right click on an image. Cheers, Allan

I had one of those back in the 60s, worked well with decent optics.. gave me troubles with the flash connected though so didn't use it at night/indoors. I wanted the f2 58mm Helios lens for it as it was a very nice piece of glass but was hard to find, so stuck with the f3.5 standard lens that they came with back then. What did yours have? I think my youngest bro has my one now.. haven't seen it in a good few years I just packed away my old Nikon F.. will probably toss that at trademe at some stage as they are a collector's item now. Great fun. Cheers, Allan
