yeah hubby - how could you forget cousin Kelly??? Not sure exactly how we are related but my Mum is married to a certain Stioux Rankin who served in the Army & did two tours of Vietnam, then moved onward & upward to the RNZAF & spent time at Hobsonville in Crash Fire. And it is thanks to the Senior Service that MeeMum met Gunner Rankin as Stioux's elder brother Ian was in the Navy with my bio Dad. NZ Defence Force - one big happy family

"And when I wave my hands like this that means you've touched something that will result in a quick death....." ;D (But we were all good and treated Brendon's collection with the respect it and he deserves. So no deaths needed.)

It's great to see some photos coming through from this event now. I just got home late this afternoon. Here are some shots that I took - not in the league of others here but a record of the evening none-the-less I hope. It was awesome to see Plonky again. I'm sure it was never this big when we painted it! Zac Yates and John Fallon (johnnyfalcon) on the left In the foreground, left to right, are Ray Deerness (who it was great to meet at last), Guy Stevenson (great chap!), Kelly Rankin (Matariki), Dee Bond, and Baz and Teresa Tod (baz1962 and av8rsmate). Not certain who that is on the right as it's blurry. In the distance is Chris Newey (fwx), Sam Hall (mumbles), Zac Yates and Tom Jones (thomarse). Not sure who it is way over the back sorry. Guy's lovely Winjeel. This is the first time I have seen one in the flesh, it was a type I had little knowledge or interest in, a periphery type. But having seen it for real, it really impressed me. A lovely example. Spitty Spitty Bang Bang This really is a lovely Harvard too, with a great history. And original RNZAF condition and paint too apart from the cowl colours that Ray Hanna added. A bit forgotten on the night but I think really cool too is the other Grumman, the Cheetah (name corrected, whoops)

Great to hear that everything went to plan and that everyone who attended had a great time. Maybe the RNZAF need to commission you to do the traffic plan for their next air show, Dave? ;D
I'm sure I can see Zac drooling in at least one of those photos, Dave. ;D
As to the Winjeel, I never had much interest in them either, until I saw one at an air show here in the early-90s, but now have grown to really like them. They've quite a rugged beast too.

I think I picked a pretty good forum meet for my first one! A big thanks to Dave for organising it, and to Brendan, Guy and Kelly for giving up their time to be with us.
I did not consider myself a Spitfire fan, but after being up close and personal with PV270 I am a changed man!

How did it take so long??? To a) attend a forum meet, and b) become a Spitfire fan. ;D Upon reflection that technically was not my first meet, I was at an informal one at the Thunder Mustang hangar a couple of years ago at a Warbirds Open Day at Ardmore. I recall us coining a rather unsavoury name for the officials after we were unceremoniously shepherded back behind the cordons. While I have always admired the Spitfire I was not expecting the level of emotion an airworthy example evoked in me when I first saw PV270 take to the skies a couple of years ago at the Tauranga AirShow. I will remember that moment for the rest of my life. Being able to get up close and personal several years later only serves to solidify that experience.

I had really hoped we'd see more photos posted here on this thread. Loads of people had cameras but not many of us have posted any photos.
