Superb, cheers. This just arrived in my inbox too from Brendon Deere: "Dave, Those that attended the forum might like to see what it would have looked like if the wings had been extended….. Chrs, Brendon"

Haha awesome! Thanks Brendon!
Now, of course, the planning for the next meet begins...

The next proper organised meet will likely be in mid-year, maybe around July when there's not much else on.
I did a lot of looking around Ardmore but it simply is far too expensive and too much hassle to even attempt, so it's not happening now.
We have of course been invited back to revisit the Subritzky collection so we may make that the next one. And then maybe another in January in Cambridge. How does that sound?

After the discussion about Avengers and oil consumption that evening, I thought it was interesting to see Plonky taxying back in after the display on Saturday:

That is after maybe 20 minutes in the air, so on operations they must have been almost black after a 4 hour flight!

Dave quick correction: 'the other Grumman' in your picture is a Cheetah (the Cougar is a twin, and don't have spots as far as I know).
A little oil goes a long way. Besides which, if there was none coming out, then there's none in there.

Thanks for the correction Scrooge. I've never been any good with civil plane names. I knew it was made by Grumman though.

Talking about Grumman aircraft, I did a rating in an AAC Grumman and it was known as the trainer. Followed up with a rating in the 4 seater which was called the traveler, NZ-DKW Whats the difference between this one and the Cougar?

Traveler and Cheetah were very similar - single engine, four seats, 150hp. Just some subtle structural changes and bigger fuel tanks turned the Traveler into the Cheetah. The Cougar was a light twin.

Sorry. I meant Cheetah, not Cougar. Thanks for the update hardyakka.

Great shots there Colin. I liked your clip too. For anyone who was unable to attend, or for those who did and wish to relive it, I have posted up the full recording of the fascinating talk by Brendon Deere (supported by Guy) as a Wings Over New Zealand Show: www.cambridgeairforce.org.nz/WONZ_Show.html#Ep18
