Big highlight for me was the four-ship Hornet burner pass right down the crowd line... Me too. The sharper eyed will have noticed the smoke trails disappearing as the throttles went forward giving an idea of what the next few seconds would sound like (i.e. awesome!). That was cool Note the airbrake extending for the break while still in afterburner...

Did anyone else see the gallons of oil smeared down the side of the Avenger? And I dont mean Normal oil usage..this was major... Talking to Guy Stevenson (Avenger display pilot) emphasised the Wright Cyclone's cavalier attitude to oil reserve preservation. The TBM oil tank is about the same size as a Cessna 172 fuel tank. The stuff down the side was completely expected. They want to fit a scavenge pump to keep the splurging to a reasonable level in future but for the moment it just happens and they wipe it all off ready for the next start. Bonus...I guess the fuselage will never corrode P.S. the air force service name for the NH90 is apparently going to be "Rhino". The original name was supposed to be "Hippo" but they didn't feel it was the right image they were after. Even though Hippos are far more deadly than any Rhinoceros... Yep I can vouch for that, running the Air Force Museum's TBF was fun but man the clean up afterwards..............not so much. This photo was taken in 1981, she had been inhibited for 6months (special preservative inhibiting oil run through the engine to prevent corrosion while the engine is not run) but even so this was pretty normal even after approx a week or so between runs. Oh and that's "George Jaunzemis" running up to unplug the battery cart. He's the chap mentioned in a couple of threads as the stolen child from his German parents at the end of World War 2 and brought up here by a Latvian woman claiming to be his mother. His real name turned out to be Peter Thomas.

Many great shots from everyone so just a couple from me... Pete Who would have thought the little C17 engine fins would save 3% of running costs - significant at AU$175,000/hour

To all who posted ...Fantastic shots everyone really enjoying this. Mumbles ..like that shot with the airbrake extending with A/Bs still aglow. I guess that is how they 1. stay subsonic and 2. maintain max noise (ie pain on NZ public). Now just have to pop over to Ytube for the vids!

Here are a quick few, in no apparent order. Still lots more images to get through... I hope he has lots of space in the next issue of Kiwiflyer! I got lots of photos and lots of information from the aircrews, so I have heaps of material to put together by Thursday when I head off overseas for work. Huey air to air on Friday USMC KC-130J Departing for Whenuapai on Saturday Evening Doug Brooker in the MX2. Always incredible! 'Blunty' practicing on Friday afternoon NH90 Display on Saturday. The team at HTU did great work getting a display out at the last minute. A very sedate display from this amazing aircraft, and fair enough given its still very early into its OT&E. I bet the Wellington suits were nervous... Imagine the 'bad press' in the 'bad press' if the 'bad press' thought something was wrong with it. This is what you get for getting up at 6am... a crowd free static line! 77sqn F/A-18A solo display on Saturday This display really blew my mind... The things he did with this Tiger Moth were incredible! Was it Dave Phillips can anyone confirm? The Sales Pitch

No that was just a clever sales pitch and photoshop. The commentary on the Texan was very hard sell. What they didnt say was that the company went bankrupt a few days ago ?? someone correct me if I am wrong
