From the website (and elsewhere I assume) WEATHER AND SHOW UPDATE We are sorry to announce that today's {Saturday} air show is not on due to the weather conditions. A decision on the night show will be made at midday. All GA and gold pass tickets for today will be transferred to tomorrow. All corporate ticket holders and sponsors will be contacted directly. For those who have travelled to the Wairarapa, our partners at Destination Wairarapa have created a list of things to do today including special offers for Wings tickets holders. Just to add to it, the Rimutaka Hill Road was closed at 0915 this morning due to a diesel spill and is not expected to open until maybe 1500

I've lived in Hastings, Gisborne and Masterton for most of my life, so I'm a bit of an expert on weather east of the main dividing range in the North Island.
When you get an easterly weather system, the rain tends to last for three days, then it gets fine again.
Unfortunately, the three-day cycle started on Thursday evening.
However, having said that, it has been generally fine in Masterton for most of the morning with just a bit of light drizzle occasionally, but the cloud ceiling is really low, so not really good flying weather for most airshow stuff. Pity, because there is virtually no wind, which means perfect flying conditions for The Vintage Aviator's aeroplanes, but that low cloud ceiling will be killing it for everything else. And I guess the airshow organisers have a difficult decision to make about the night show this evening. Unless that low cloud ceiling lifts, they are buggered. A bit of a “how long is a piece of string” quandry trying to predict if/when that ceiling will lift.

From their Facebook page just now: The Night Show scheduled to begin this evening at Hood Aerodrome in Masterton at 7.30pm will be postponed until tomorrow night, weather pending. As planned today, the night show is a separate event and ticket details will be available through www.wings.org.nz. People who purchased tickets for Saturday’s night show, can transfer them to Sunday night. Or people who have bought tickets for Saturday Night Show, who cannot attend the Sunday night show, can upgrade to a Sunday day pass at the gate. They will need to pay the difference. If none of these options suit, they can get a refund on the night show ticket by emailing support@ticketdirect.co.nz. A decision on Sunday’s airshow will be made tomorrow morning. If both events are held, they will be scheduled as it was for today. That means: Day Show: Gates open at 8am and flying scheduled to begin at 10.15am (weather permitting). Gates close at 5pm and people will need to leave the site. Night Show: Gates re-open at 7pm with flying scheduled between 7.30pm – 9.30pm (weather permitting).

Sitting in Wellington reading this and absolutely gutted for the organisers, participants, show crew, would-be attendees and everyone affected. It's a cruel fact of life that after so much organisation, promotion, preparation and huge expense, it's all at the whim of the weather. Gutted. Hope everyone can catch a break tomorrow and salvage something of it.

Rather than sitting around moping today, I drove north and then west. Left the rain behind by Pahiatua. Called in to Feilding and managed to score a test flight in the brand new Cirrus S22 N438NZ, thanks to the Cirrus rep Bruce. So a good day after all. One happy Peter.

I guess thats because people wake up in the morning, look out at the weather, and say 'Oh God'.

... and still people continue to call it "Gods own"! Only the second time in 18 years that weather cancellations have been a feature so I'd say they are doing okay.

from Wings Over Wairarapa's website and Facebook page....
WEATHER AND SHOW UPDATE
Sunday's air show and night show are cancelled.
We are all gutted. More information to come.
So that's both aviation events on the eastern side of the North Island this weekend completely killed by the weather.
Fingers crossed this season's crappy, unpredictable weather doesn't also throw a spanner in the works during Easter.
