Noel Kruse's Ryan STM is always an amazing sight to see. To keep an aircraft that brightly polished must be a real labour of love. Very much like the potted history of the aircraft on the tail. He put on a magnificent handling display with this aircraft on both days of the show. There have been two other Ryans active in NZ over the years, ZK-BEM and ZK-RYN. Thankfully they are both still with us. The first ZK-ABC was a workhorse Simmonds Spartan, which had quite a short active life December 1929 - March 1933

Noel told me that when he requested the ZK-ABC registration from CAA they said that if that Spartan ever came back to life, he would have to give it up. There is some guideline about dormant historic registrations not being reissued.

Noel told me that when he requested the ZK-ABC registration from CAA they said that if that Spartan ever came back to life, he would have to give it up. There is some guideline about dormant historic registrations not being reissued. I understand that, where practical, you have to ask the original owner for permission to use it. I seem to remember Graham Orphan talking about it in an article about his Fleet 16 where he was able to use the rego from the Marlborough Aero Club's long-gone Fleet biplane. The DH.5 was originally built by Airco but the CAA has this one as a De Havilland D.H.5 Replica. Nieuport N. 11, not N.II - or XI, as the CAA site suggests. ZK-DPP = Proct or I. The Waco is a UOC, was also ZK-ALA: www.jemaviation.co.nz/current/waco/ZK-EEC is registered as a "Pitts S-1 Special", ZK-PIG is an S-2S. The CAA has the Camel as "Sopwith Camel Replica" and the Snipe as "The Vintage Aviator Sopwith 7F.1 Snipe". None of the Triplanes were built by TVAL, theirs are registered as "Fokker Triplane Replica Scout" and the D.VII as "Fokker D.VII Replica". All three Daks are registered as type "Douglas DC3C-S1C3G" - not sure how accurate that is.

Thanks chaps.I am actually unsure which Tigers were there, I saw at least two. The ones on the page at the moment were from the previous airshow so probably need adjusting. There was a silver one in Air Force markings, and the RAAF local one. Can anyone assist?

No need to get too technical there Zac, my prefix of TVAL denotes the organisation they belong to, not the manufacturer, to diffrentiate from other WWI replicas on the field. And considering all three "DC3C's" are actually C-47's...
My understanding is the Proctor was modified to Gull status during the rebuild so I have put it in now as Proctor 1 "Gull". It's referred to as a Gull by the operators I believe.

The only two Tigers I saw were the local ZK-BER plus visitor ZK-BEC which is painted up in RAF colours as T7167 (but yes there may have been others hidden away).
Other non-participants I saw were: Auster AZF Vans PRV Birdog NAM Calidus RCZ Gippsland MAW Tecnam TRG Maule JQY Nanchang WOK Cessna 150 DNY Kawasaki IMN Cessna 180 CDY Cessna 177 CXM Boeing-Stearman KJO Cavalon RDY Gippsland DPC Bell 206 HTA Eurocopter IFR Airtourer DAC

Thanks!!
Also, was Airtrainer ZK-DGY there? I know there was an Airtourer in mock RNZAF markings, ZK-CLD, but I had a feeling DGY was there too?

Yes, both Airtourer 115 ZK-CLD (flown by my friend Bill Daly) and the CT-4 ZK-DGY arrived Friday afternoon for the duration.
