Both are at Omaka. The close-up was taken from the 'finger' on the eastern side of the airfield between the aviation museum and the area where the B170 was parked - as the Anson was taxiied out from the (new) private hangar area.
Photo of it landing is on finals for Omaka RW12 - Woodbourne in the background.

Finally, from me, the Fieseler Fi 103 V-1 mockup. An amazing beast. The rig being positioned for the launch process All set to go, with the accompanying ground troops looking serious We have lift-off The LED effects in the tailpipe certainly add to the realism Coming back for a downwind pass . . . . . while the chase plane, Griffon-engined Spitfire ZK-XIV, takes a higher line Meanwhile on the ground the opposing force's 'fire-wheel' Great Panjandrum adds to the drama.

To me it looks a bit like the background in this shot , but without the cars ( I borrowed from the Wanaka 16 thread ) . The wire fence , the road beyond that . the power line beyond that , the scrubby hill beyond that ?

Peter's first image is definitely Wanaka, there is no sealed road adjacent to the airfield here and certainly no hills that close.

That Yak is definitely at Wanaka Yes , I know that ( as stated , I borrowed it from a previous Wanaka thread ) . I simply posted it to show the similarities between its background and the photo Peter had posted earlier as being from Omaka . Apoligies if it caused confusion

I have check back on the original CR2 file in Lightroom, and I find that yes it was taken at Wanaka 28March2016. The file number has been duplicated (change of camera) so Lightroom has sorted it into the wrong sequence. Sorry about that. As a bonus, here is the one that should have been there - Anson ZK-RRA taxiing out to start its display at Omaka 15April 2017

Some great photos Errol!
I for one have to admit I was underwhelmed by Steadfast. Perhaps James wasn't allowed to really run her through her paces? I expected a bit more speed from an Unlimited racer and record holder. A few have mentioned a likeness shared by this and the Lavochkin La-9 - I still prefer the La-9 and its displays by John Lamont.
That said, I still enjoyed the displays and thought that getting to see her in person after many years of admiring from afar was a very special experience and am very grateful to all involved for getting Steadfast and crew over to Omaka. I hope any members of the CF team reading this aren't insulted!

The Steadfast displays at Omaka were far more exciting than when it appeared at Temora in 2015, Zac. In fact I thought it was a great addition to the airshow line up, that smoke system alone made it a real spectacle. And the Steadfast team were great fun too in the bar on Sunday night. I do agree that the La-9 has a lot more 'presence' though. It's so sad that left NZ to simply be permanently grounded.

I loved the smoke! That was insane to watch! I think I just built it up in my mind too much and expected to see more speed.

I might suggest that there could be limitations so far as speed is concerned when using Omaka . Those hills to the south would come up pretty quick if going flat out , and there is housing to the east and north that would only take a few seconds flying time to be above . I do know what you mean though , I thought Steadfast was a real highlight of the show , yet I still found myself expecting more .

I was the opposite, I was expecting less having seen it at Temora, but it was so much better this time round.

It has not flown since it left NZ and they have no intention of doing so, sadly.

At Temora the aircraft was still being "worked-up" so to speak. Smoke system has been vastly improved but I do agree about the La-9, now that was a special machine and for some reason or other that I just don't fathom, the La-9 just seemed to be faster.
