A mate and I are thinking of coming over this this. We’re both keen of photography so we got a couple of questions
1. When do the majority of the aircraft arrive or leave. (i.e. is it worth getting there a day early for arrivals or going out there on the Monday for departures?)
2. Is the gold pass worth it (i.e. is the view for photography better from the seating than being in the crowd line?)
Any other tips on this particular air show are appreciated

Most aircraft arrive on the Thursday and leave on the Monday.
it is definitely worth getting there early if you can, lots of activity from arrivals and practices. The Monday departure always depends on weather in other parts of the country, and of course a lot of the infrastructure is removed by then as a lot starts to come down as soon as the airshow is over.
It's the best airshow in the country for flying, content and photography, so you won't be disappointed.

I echo Dave's comments. Excellent show, I have convinced a few friends to come along for the first time. I know they won't be disappointed. It is very well run in it's own unique style, and alot of rare attractions not seen elsewhere. Looking forward to it.

I have heard a rumour from a good source that we can expect some RAAF Hornets at the next Classic Fighters. That will be something different for Omaka!!

Neat, a chance at Hornets in decent lighting! Fingers crossed. Hopefully a C-27 in support that doesn't break (or get cancelled due to an incident) and is a bit more lively than the pre-IOC display as well. I'd prefer not too much modern stuff, however. With the parts issues on the Texans are we expecting a full Black Falcons season? Edit: Called it! rnzaf.proboards.com/thread/27486/black-falcons-season

Depends who gets into Government over here. May also need to keep the F18s on point ready for the next scheduled crap out of the F35.

Bugger ... they've canned the Awards Dinner!!
That used to be one of the highlights of Classic Fighters, after all the flying was over.
And always a great chance to catch up with a few people.
Still, perhaps F-18s (if they appear) might make up for it.
Fingers crossed for good weather in the lead-up to the airshow this time.

UPDATE: F/A-18A/B CLASSIC HORNET BOUND FOR CLASSIC FIGHTERS OMAKAThe fastest jet fighter to date to debut at Omaka Aerodrome just got fasterBlenheim, NZ: Further to the press release issued 20 November announcing the confirmation of the FA-18 Super Hornet to participate in the Yealands Classic Fighters Air Show 2019, we have received notification that this should have read F/A-18A/B Classic Hornet. The F/A-18A/B Classic Hornet is a multi-role fighter, single seat aircraft and has a maximum speed of 2,200 km/h (Mach 1.8), as opposed to the 1,960km/h (Mach 1.6) of the FA-18 Super Hornet. Spokesperson, Graham Orphan said “Of course we're delighted to be hosting any of the stunning FA-18 Hornet series jet fighters at this airshow but at the risk of stating the obvious, it makes more sense to have the Classic Hornet performing here at Classic Fighters Airshow, and of course, the Classic Hornet is faster, so will arrive sooner, so we could not be happier to be hosting these awesome machines!”. Adventure flights will be available in Bill Reid's Anson. I expect these will be popular and sold out well before the air show, so get your booking in early. Details on the Classic Fighters Facebook page www.facebook.com/classicfightersomaka

As far as I can work out from forum posts the following will NOT be displaying at Omaka this year- FW 190, F4U, P 40 NZ 3009, Yak 9 and most of the WW1 aircraft. Can members confirm this and add to the list as necessary? Are there any vintage new comers expected?

The Flug Werke 190 is planned to be there and hopefully back in the air Shorty.
Yak 9? No chance. But the Yak 3 'Full Noise' will be there.
And there will be a good number of WWI aeroplanes there, just not the TVAL owned ones.

That airfield is a grass strip is that right? So the Hornet would stage out of the nearby RNZAF base is that what’s planned?

Yes. Not sure if they'd base at Woodbourne, maybe Ohakea.

I would assume Ohakea, there isn’t the infrastructure at Woodbourne to keep them secure (the boarder from SH6 is a patchy hedge!

I dont think they are as worried these days about security for the old birds. At Temora Airshow 2 were kept behind a low 3 wire agri fence. Unless its part of a broader exercise out of Ohakea?

Am I wildly incorrect in thinking the F/A-18s have been into Woodbourne before? I was sure I'd heard that somewhere.
