This photo is just in from Graham Orphan of the Gnome-powered Sopwith Pup which successfully flew today with its new (brand new) engine. Graham describes it as, "Very cool - and fast!" Wayne Tantrum in the cockpit and engine builder Tony Wytenburg of C.A.M.S. with his back to the camera.

Five RAAF F18s flew up the d'Entrecastreaux Channel (south of Hobart) at extremely low level this afternoon. Heading to NZ? Rarely seen down here. Scared the he'll out of our kitchen gardener😉

Yes a good post Gavin and lets hope those who think the rules don't apply to them use their brains. And yes I think I'm banned from most sauce products........near Lumpy at least! Well I live about 10 minutes walk from the airfield so I’ll be there most of the time . I’ll be the one with tomato sauce stains on my shirt ( once Baz turns up anyway )

16 April 2019 Military Re-Enactments are still an integral part of Yealands Classic Fighters 2019Striving to achieve the balance between historical context, spectacle and safety Blenheim, NZ: Yealands Classic Fighters was proud to be the first event in the Southern Hemisphere to host a dedicated WW-I battle sequence involving multiple aeroplanes, military vehicles and sets, back in 2001. We have taken pride in growing this aspect of the show ever since. This year the organisers are planning some changes to the way that these period set-pieces are conducted. The desire to pay tribute to fallen servicemen and women remains the same, and the range of aircraft and vehicles will also stay unchanged, but in light of the national mood following the atrocities at the Christchurch mosques on 15th March, the focus on the ground battles will be softened somewhat. Many of the participating re-enactment groups along with the airshow organisers themselves, have expressed a reduced appetite for fielding large numbers of soldiers firing weapons in the show and so they have decided to pare back this side of the presentation a little for this year's event. Visitors should be aware though, that there will still be some rifle fire, military vehicles, soldiers and explosions. Graham Orphan, Yealands Classic Fighters Committee Member says, “We believe it is important to achieve the re-enactments with integrity and sensitivity towards that other important message that rests on our shoulders, the one that says, "Lest We Forget." The small but enthusiastic team behind the Yealands Classic Fighters Airshow have been working very hard for many months to put together a show that is full of variety and spectacle and hope that all in attendance enjoy their time in Marlborough and enjoy this unique 'home-grown' experience. Please note that all bags will be subject to a security check, so allow plenty of time. About Yealands Classic Fighters Omaka: Held every alternate Easter the airshow is the main fundraising event for the Omaka Aviation Heritage Museum, located in Blenheim, Marlborough NZ. The show is 19-21 April 2019 and tickets are available now at www.classicfighters.co.nz or at the gate.

Re car parking: The comment re access via the river track with parking the car at the recycling plant (Wither Rd) - This used to be another access to a car park in years gone by. Does this allow access to the main gate still? I ask this because of the restrictions noted on car parking. In previous years we have walked from Weld St then along Wither Rd and across the dry riverbed into Omaka and wondered if this still a proposition. Any locals willing to give advice? Kevin

How will the change in gun laws affect the military re-enactments? Those keen young men and women with their WWII operative Bren guns, Tommy guns, MP40's Spandaus etc may not be able to have them at Omaka

Given how WW2 squads were typically an MG plus also-rans, I imagine realism will suffer some, but still provide reasonable entertainment. It's great seeing everything moving into place, NZ Warbirds WW1 birds unpacked at JEM, Pup with new engine, Birds outside at Biggin Hill hangar.

Kevin There are now private hangars and a private road along that area used in the past. I don’t believe that you can access the airfield from there any more.

Here are some pics of the day just in from Graham Orphan: The Nelson and Motueka promotional flight flight saw this great formation right across the Top of the South this arvo. Everyone through Nelson Marlborough should by now know what's coming if they didn't already! An eclectic mix But wait, there's more Another unusual mix

Hi all, Been assisting with getting two aircraft organized for the show, Gert's Bleriot and practice in Morris Tull's Pitts S1S for my solo, a bit of a reenactment of Pam Colling's 4min free style, in keeping with the theme of the show. Weather looks well and truly under control for another great Classic Fighters airshow. bleriotxi.com/2019/04/14/omaka-here-we-come/ - video at the top was taken last Sunday morning.

By the way, I'm going to have (according to the plan) an Anson flight on Friday either before or shortly after lunch. If anyone gets a photo of the departure or arrival I'd be very grateful for a copy.
