Yep....Avalon, Tocumwal, Tyabb next year... all gone. Just hoping that Brisbane show first weekend in October and Temora the weekend after remain unaffected. However, if people continue to break the rules for their own purposes and put everyone at risk like the moron who travelled from Sydney to Byron Bay forcing them into lockdown, the problem will only continue and escalate dragging it out further. As the NSW Health Minister said about those who flout the restrictions on Covid, "...you cannot legislate against stupidity, arrogance and entitlement...". This way, 2022 may look like the mirror image of 2020 and 2021 if our vaccination regime does not deliver as hoped. Who ever thought that we, the current generations, would be experiencing something as did our parents.....

Wings Over Illawarra in November would have to be looking uncertain as well. The organisors have been putting out positive posts going ahead, but given it is primarily seen as Sydney's defacto airshow and they need to get a good crowd to make it viable, it may too roll into 2022. The lack of controls on travel, especially something as simple as putting Police checkpoints on all the major roads out of Sydney would be a good starting point in stopping those who believe the rules don't apply to them.
The cancellation of Avalon removes the last large scale opportuntiy for the RAAF to participate in a large airshow for the RAAF Centenary, showing off the current RAAF aircraft and a large part of their heritage as well.
I hope Temora in October can go ahead as I am looking forward to seeing the Canberra flying again. Given how well the Temora events in 2019 and 2020 were managed in respect to the Covid rules and reduced crowd sizes, if the southern half of NSW stays out of lockdown or not declared as hot zones, should go ahead.

yeah.....but I'm in Sydney. Even being in Sutherland Shire - (centre of the known universe) - we are not immune and may be subject to lockdown. Spoke to Mark ref Wings the other day and he is positive but sweating on how the covid curve goes.

Wings Over Illawarra 2021 - UPDATE - Date Change
Wings Over Illawarra Date Change for 2021 Air Show
After lengthy consideration and consultation with industry participants, the organisers of Wings Over Illawarra have made the proactive decision to push the 2021 event back by two weeks to the weekend of 27-28 November.
Originally set for 13-14 November, with a Schools & Careers Day on 12th November , Wings Over Illawarra Airshow has been postponed, and will now be running Saturday 27 & Sunday 28 November 2021, with Schools & Careers Day on Friday 26 November.
The decision has been made with the view to give the airshow the best possible chance to go ahead and minimize uncertainty for our patrons, exhibitors, stallholders and participants given the current COVID-19 landscape in NSW.
“Over the years we have faced many challenges with the unprecedented wind in 2014; floods forcing the cancellation of 2015; and most recently the 2020 show being postponed due to the pandemic, it is clear COVID-19 is by far our greatest challenge”, said Mark Bright, event director.
“With the postponement from 13-14 November to 27-28 November, we hope the health risk of the Coronavirus pandemic will have been mitigated by high vaccination rates, putting the 2021 Wings Over Illawarra Airshow in the best position for success”.
“The bottom line is that the safety and health of our staff, volunteers, attendees, exhibitors, stallholders and participants is paramount and by pushing the dates back, it is hoped that restrictions will ease, and that people will be eager to emerge from lockdown and experience the excitement of a world class airshow to lift spirits” said Mark. All tickets purchased for 13-14 November will be reissued with the 27-28 November dates.
Will be interesting to see how this plays out in the next couple of months given the figures in NSW today and expected by many of the epidemiologists in the next couple of weeks. ACT Government has already broadly stated that Canberrans should not expect to travel to anywhere in the Newcastle/Sydney/Wollongong areas before the end of the year and ACT borders would remain closed to NSW residents from those areas until then as well.

Temora Aviation Museum have just advised that their planned two-day Aircraft Showcase scheduled for 9-10 October 2021, which would have included the first public display of the Canberra, has been cancelled due to the ongoing Covid situation in NSW.
They have also advised that they have now scheduled a one day Aircraft Showcase on Saturday 20 November 2021, which given current indications will be after NSW, Victoria and the ACT look to be coming out of the higher levels of Covid lockdown and a larger scale event should be able to take place. Event is planned to be the first public display of the Canberra after its return to flight.
Fingers crossed on this one! If this goes ahead, likely a good display rehearsal for the Temora crew before WOI 2021 the following weekend. I could be having back to back airshow weekends to close out the year!

I note in the email notification from TAM that they are expecting some RAAF participation in the November Showcase. Maybe we will get to see the Classic F/A-18 'Magpie' perform it's "last hurrah" down south. Would make sense for it to come south if there are two events for it to make a farewell tour appearance at.
Also getting well and truly "ground hogged", made worse today by having to go and get tested and quarantine until further notice because my last essentials run to the local supermarket mid week coincided with the "extended window for potential infection" of someone who did have the bug being there half an hour before me. Now waiting for first round of test results, have to go back and go throught the whole testing routine again in a few days time.
Mutter, mutter, mutter.............thank heavens I have some good reading in stock.

Busy morning on the ramp at Temora Aviation Museum today. Looks like a nice sunny day for flying after a period of wet and unsettled weather. Temora Ramp 07102021 by Colin Ford, on Flickr TAM had advised that the Canberra might be doing some flying the next couple of days as the pilots keep their currency on the type - weather, serviceability and pilot availability permitting. Also looks like runway 18/36 is temporarily closed whilst some civil works are going on either side of the runway down near the taxiway closest to the TAM Maintenance Hangar.

Recreational flying is now allowed in Auckland, so things should liven up when the weather clears in the weekend. NZ Warbirds are setting up a system so that their hangars aren't flooded with people at the same time...

Meanwhile Cambridge is back in Level 3 lockdown from 23.59hrs tonight thanks to the frigging gang members who've been spreading the virus around the Waikato. That's my upcoming aviation event plans scuppered, I am sure. Gutted.
